Robert A. Berisford, 78, of Washington, died Thursday, December 27, 2012, in his home.

He was born February 17, 1934, in Washington, a son of the late Ralph J. Sr. and Martha Mae Huggins Berisford.

Mr. Berisford was a graduate of Washington High School and went on to work as a charger operator for Jessop Steel, from where he retired.

He loved playing for the Jessop dartball league and also was an avid card player and Steelers and Pirates fan.

Mr. Berisford was a veteran of the U.S. Army, the U.S. Air Force and the Army National Guard.

On October 16, 1954, in Washington, he married Ella Irene Bird, who died September 12, 1992.

Surviving are a son, Dale A. (Cathy) Berisford of Pinellas Park, Fla.; two daughters, Sandra (Jay) Briggs and Debra (Lonnie) Amon, both of Washington; six grandchildren, Brian J. and Jason A. Briggs, Joyelle M. Ruff, Bobbie Jo Little and Matthew W. and Leslie A. Rutan; eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Deceased are three brothers, Ralph Berisford Jr., William J. Berisford and Donald Berisford, and a sister, Virginia Gump.

Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and 1 to 3 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday in Piatt and Barnhill Funeral Home, 420 Locust Avenue, Washington, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, January 4, with Pastor Gary Gibson officiating. Military honors will be accorded by Edwin Scott Linton Post 175 of the American Legion. Interment will follow in Washington Cemetery.
