William Craig Reed

William Craig Reed, 81, of West Alexander, died Sunday, November 4, 2012, in Wheeling (W.Va.) Hospital.

He was born April 16, 1931, in West Alexander, a son of the late Frank Emmet and Willa Marie Jenkins Reed.

Mr. Reed was a member of West Alexander Presbyterian Church, where he served as an elder.

He was a 1950 graduate of West Alexander High School.

Mr. Reed was a veteran of the Korean War, serving with the U.S. Army from 1952 until 1954.

He was a heavy construction carpenter with the carpenters union, Wheeling Local.

Mr. Reed was a 58-year member and past commander of American Legion Post 656 in West Alexander, member of Masonic Lodge in Claysville, Scottish Rite in Wheeling and Osiris in Elm Grove, where he was a Medal of Honor member. He was a councilman and mayor of West Alexander from 1966 to 1982. He also served as vice president of Pennsylvania Mayors Association.

He enjoyed dancing and doing home improvement projects.

On February 27, 1954, he married Evelyn Patricia Egan, who died March 19, 1990. On March 21, 1992, he married Jo Anne Bott, who survives.

Also surviving are a son, D. Michael (Diana) Reed of Bolivar, Ohio; a daughter, Donna L (Mark S.) Clark of Moundsville, W.Va.; seven stepchildren; a sister, Mary Kathryn Morley of West Alexander; three grandchildren, Matthew J. Clark, Jonathan N. Clark and Samuel E. Clark; and two great-grandchildren, Wyatt and Landen.

Deceased are a sister, Laurena Cecelia Reed, and a brother, James Jenkins Reed.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday in West Alexander Presbyterian Church, Main Street, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, November 8, with Pastor Keith Hornung officiating. Interment will follow in West Alexander Cemetery. Full military honors will be accorded by West Alexander American Legion. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to West Alexander American Legion Post 656 or West Alexander Presbyterian Church. Arrangements are being handled by Michael H. Heinrich Funeral Home, Claysville.
