Helen Gray Phillips
Helen Gray Phillips, 88, of West Palm Beach, Fla., formerly of Washington, where she lived for 75 years, died Friday, October 26, 2012, in Boynton Health Care Center, Boynton Beach, Fla.
She was born November 12, 1923, in Washington, a daughter of Frank R. and Martha Hazlett Gray.
A 1943 graduate of Trinity High School, she had been a member of North Buffalo Presbyterian Church.
Mrs. Phillips worked at Duncan Miller, then later at Tygart Valley, and lastly at RCA, as an electronics tester.
She worshipped her grandchildren and was extremely passionate about sewing and oil painting. A member of Eastern Star, she was a sewing instructor with 4-H and founded the painting program at Washington Senior Center, where she had been extremely active.
On November 16, 1944, she married Robert W. Phillips, who died June 7, 1992.
Surviving are two daughters, Dr. Carol Phillips, M.D., of Fairbanks, Alaska, and Joan (Robert) Schimansky of Wellington, Fla.; a sister, Virginia Siebert of Charlottesville, Va.; three grandchildren, Dr. Katie Phillips, D.V.M., of Raleigh, N.C., and Loren Schimansky and Robin Schimansky, both of Florida; and two great-grandchildren, Abby and Emma Stenstrom.
Deceased are a son, Donald W. Phillips; and a brother, Lloyd Gray.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday in William G. Neal Funeral Homes Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, November 10, with Pastor Gary Gibson officiating.
