Richard T. Lowe

Richard T. “Peanuts” Lowe, 57, of Avella, died at 8:20 p.m. Friday, November 9, 2012, in Weirton Medical Center, Weirton, W.Va.

Mr. Lowe was born August 13, 1955, in Weirton, son of Gwendolyn J. Fry Lowe and the late William E. “Gene” Lowe.

He was a 1975 graduate of Avella High School and was previously employed as an ironworker before an accident that left him paralyzed.

Mr. Lowe participated in the Atlanta Paralympics Games and several wheelchair marathons, including the Boston Marathon.

He was a weightlifting instructor and a former assistant football coach at Avella High School and was assistant punting football coach at Brooke High School.

Mr. Lowe was a member of The Sons of Bert C. Siders American Legion Post 643 of Avella.

He was an avid sports fan and especially loved to watch Steelers football games.

Surviving, in addition to his mother, are four brothers, Charles (Kay) Lowe of Wheeling, W.Va., William (Christine) Lowe of Wellsburg, W.Va., Alan (Becky) Lowe of West Middletown and Glenn (Lisa) Lowe of Avella; two sisters, Linda (Dr. Scott ) Cook of Canonsburg and Karen (Jamie) Miller of Washington; and several nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews.

Friends will be received from 5 to 6 p.m., the time of the memorial service, Thursday, November 15, in Jerome A. Stefkovich Funeral Home Inc., 18 Campbell Street, Avella, with Dr. Scott Cook officiating.
