Roland M. Checca, 89, of Cecil, died Sunday, November 4, 2012, in the St. Clair Hospital emergency room, Mt. Lebanon.

He was born July 3, 1923, in Pittsburgh, a son of the late Lorenzo Checca and Rosa DelSignore.

Mr. Checca was a member of St. Mary Parish, where he was on the worship committee and was former choir director. He also belonged to Cecil American Legion and was a former Cecil Township supervisor.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening with his garlic and was an avid Steelers fan.

Mr. Checca worked as an electrical tester for McGraw-Edison Power Systems in Canonsburg.

Surviving are wife Mary L. Checca of Cecil; three sons, Roland J. (Sheila) Checca, Richard A. (Darlene) Checca and Timothy (Tammi) Checca, all of Cecil Township; five grandchildren, Tracy (Steve) Sweeney of Bethel Park and Krystle Checca, Courtney Checca, Kolbie Checca and Kasey Checca, all of Cecil Township; and a great-grandson, Shane Checca.

Deceased, in addition to his parents, are three brothers, Ferminio, Verbeno and Larry Checca, and five sisters, Stella Anesetti, Ridenta Checca, Elpinia Petracchi and two in infancy.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday in Coleman-Taylor Funeral Services, 3378 Millers Run Road (Route 50), Cecil, where prayers of transfer will be said at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, November 13, followed by a Christian funeral Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Mary’s Church, Cecil, with Father Stan Gregorek officiating.

Interment will follow in National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, Cecil Township.
