Elinor Montana Johnson, 83, of Monongahela, died Wednesday, November 14, 2012, in Mon Valley Hospital.
She was born July 30, 1929, in New Eagle, a daughter of the late Joseph C. “Hooks” and Margaret Hayes Montana.
After high school, she began working as an operator with Bell Telephone Co. Following her time there, she was a secretary for Father Abbatte at the former St. Anthony School and then the program director at Mon Valley YMCA. She then retired from Corning Glass in Charleroi as an account clerk.
Mrs. Johnson was a member of St. Damien of Molokai Parish, St. Anthony Church, in Monongahela, where she belonged to and was past president of its Altar Rosary Christian Mother Society.
She enjoyed going to The Meadows and loved to play cards, especially Euchre.
Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Keith F. and Kathy Johnson of Monongahela; four daughters and two sons-in-law, Patricia M. and John Kozon of Monongahela, Pamela Giordanengo and her companion, Greg Schultz, of Wisconsin, and Paula and Ronald Roman and Arlene Johnson and her companion, Bill Thieret, all of Monongahela; a brother, Joseph Montana of the state of California; 11 grandchildren, John (Brenda) Kozon, Kelly (Chad Lauderbaugh) Kozon, Shauna (Christopher) Bigi, Jamie (Jay) Taylor, Amie and Brian Ludwick, Cody and Casey Johnson, Emily (Dan) Vavreck, Katie Thompson (David Wachinski) and Sarah Thompson; 10 great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Harriet Montana of Ohio and Jeanne Montana of Texas; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Deceased are her husband, Milton “Tino” Johnson, who died October 31, 2003; two brothers, Robert “Bud” and William Montana; and two sisters, Elizabeth Voelker and Emma Brirley.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. Friday in Marshall Marra Funeral Home, 216 Chess Street, Monongahela, where a blessing service will be held at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, November 17, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Anthony Church, Monongahela, with Father William Terza, as celebrant. Interment will follow in Monongahela Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Mon Valley YMCA, 101 Taylor Run Road, Monongahela, PA 15063.
