John Josiah Thomas
John Josiah Thomas, 91, formerly of Bentleyville, died Tuesday evening, November 13, 2012, in Washington Hospital.
He was born November 16, 1920, in West Bethlehem Township, Washington County, a son of the late Harry and Elizabeth Smith Thomas.
Mr. Thomas was a self-employed farmer and had worked for Atlas Railroad in Eighty Four.
He was a veteran of World War II, having served with the U.S. Army.
Mr. Thomas was a member of Labor Local 1058.
Surviving are his former wife, Phyllis Mitchner Thomas; five children, Bruce C. Thomas of Killeen, Texas, Cindy L. Shedlock of Monongahela, John W. “Porky” Thomas of Bentleyville, Bill J. Thomas (Lisa Fox) of Burgettstown and David L. Thomas (Shelly) of Scenery Hill; 14 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two sisters, Margaret Hustava of Bentleyville and Mae Stanish of Beallsville; and several nieces and nephews.
Deceased are three brothers, Bill, Guy and Dutch Thomas; and two sisters, Ruth Thomas and Helen Keegan.
Friends are welcome from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday in Thompson-Marodi Funeral Home Inc., 809 Main Street, Bentleyville, 724-239-2255, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, November 17, with Pastor David Hall officiating. Interment will follow in Pigeon Creek Presbyterian Cemetery, Eighty Four. Graveside military rites will be accorded.
