Marie Margaret Sierzega, 85, of Masontown, passed away Monday, November 12, 2012, with her loving family by her side.
She was a loving wife, devoted mother, tremendous grandmother and the best, most fun aunt to all her nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Sierzega was born June 1, 1927, in York Run, a daughter of the late Karol “Charlie” and Kathryn “Katie” Hancheck Hlatky.
She was a member of All Saints Roman Catholic Church, Christian Mothers and the Pals’ Club in Masontown.
Mrs. Sierzega loved to crochet, bake and grow and can vegetables and berries with her family and friends.
Left to cherish her memory are her husband of 59 years, Thomas Philip Sierzega; loving children Louise Anne Geary of Uniontown, Thomas Philip Sierzega Jr. and wife Debbie Watson of McMurray, Vivian Sierzega-Rouse and husband Michael Rouse of Woodbine, Md., Carl J. Sierzega and wife Deborah of Washington and Edward Raymond Sierzega of Hamilton, Va.; 16 grandchildren; a great-grandchild; a brother, Robert “Putt” Hlatky of Long Island, N.Y.; and many nieces and nephews who adored her.
Deceased, in addition to her parents, are a grandson, Tommy Sierzega; brothers John Hlatky, Joseph “Joe” Hlatky and Charles “Sonny” Hlatky; sisters Anna Mae O’Neil and Dorothy “Dot” Palaski; son-in-law Andrew “Andy” Geary; and daughter-in-law Mary Lou Sierzega.
Friends will be received from from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday and until 9:30 a.m. Friday, November 16, in John S. Maykuth Jr. Funeral Home, corner of Church and 7 River Avenue, Masontown, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in All Saints Roman Catholic Church, Masontown, with the Rev. Father John M. Butler as celebrant. Interment will follow in St. Agnes Cemetery, Masontown. A parish wake service will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home, follow by rosary.
