Edith M. Buchanan

Edith M. Buchanan, a longtime resident of Pitt Gas, died Tuesday, November 22, 2012, in Washington Hospital.

She was a daughter of the late Edward and Lettonia Moore.

Mrs. Buchanan and her late husband Jesse were blessed with four children, three daughters and a son.

For 18 years, she was employed by the commonwealth of Pennsylvania as a houseparent at the Waynesburg facility. She was also the recording secretary for AFSCME Retiree Chapter 8403, Waynesburg.

Mrs. Buchanan was for more than 50 years a member of First Baptist Church, Clarksville, where she was the secretary and a teacher for the Missionary Circle. She was a member of the trustee board, a deaconess, church clerk and a treasurer of the church school. She had completed several courses sponsored by Congress of Christian Education. She was a member of Order of the Eastern Star, Pride of the Valley Chapter 70, for 52 years, serving two terms as worthy matron.

Leading a full life, she was treasurer of the Good Samaritan Club of the Clarksville area, United Mission of Area Churches, treasurer of Green County Senior Action Council and a volunteer for the Retired Senior Volunteer Program and worked on the election board, Jefferson No. 2, in Greene County.

Mrs. Buchanan loved to cook and crochet, enjoyed socializing with family and friends and volunteering in the community and was a avid homemaker.

She is survived by her children, Beverly (Curtis), Florence and Vernon (Amanda); a brother, James Moore; a sister, Marcella Jones; grandchildren Nicole, Tony and Bailee; and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Jesse; a daughter, Audrey C. Cyrus; and sisters Thelma Culp and Estella Culp.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday in First Baptist Church, Pitt Gas, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, November 26. The family requests that contributions be made to Alzheimer’s Association of Southwest Pennsylvania. Arrangements are by Behm Funeral Homes Inc., 1477 Jefferson Road, Jefferson, PA 15344, Gregory P.
