Blaine Edwin Allum
Blaine Edwin Allum, 87, of Rices Landing, formerly of Wooster, Ohio, and West Finley, passed away peacefully Tuesday, November 20, 2012, with his family at his side, following a long and courageous battle with cancer.
Mr. Allum was born February 22, 1925, a son of the late Fred and Josephine Allum.
He was a high school graduate.
Mr. Allum was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Elden.
In October 1950, he married Jewell, who died in 1976. Together, they had four children, daughters Dianna, Ruthie and Carol and son Paul Allum, who died in 1996.
In 1982, Mr. Allum married his wife Anne, who survives.
While living in Ohio, he worked for East Ohio Gas Co. for 32 years and held the position of supervisor. After retiring from the gas company, he returned to West Finley, where he owned and operated Allum’s Grocery Store for 10 years. He then left West Finley and took up residence in Rices Landing, Dry Tavern.
Mr. Allum was Baptist and was a Free and Accepted Mason.
He was a member of American Legion of Claysville.
In his pastime, he enjoyed playing cards and golf.
Surviving, in addition to his wife Anne, are daughters Dianna Bowersock (James) of West Salem, Ohio, Ruthie Ralston of Millersburg, Ohio, and Carol Huxley (Tim) of Medina, Ohio; daughter-in-law Cathy Allum; stepchildren Ellen Krokenberger of Youngstown, Ohio, John Gutosky (Paula) of Coal Center and William Gutosky (Dianna) of Michigan; sister Patty Richey (Steve) of Canton, Ohio; nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.
Deceased, in addition to his parents and first wife Jewell, are son Paul and sister Veda Miller.
At the request of the deceased, there will be no visitation. All other services will be private. Arrangements have been entrusted to Frank Burkus Funeral Home, 26 Mill Street, Millsboro.
