Louis S. Falbo, 89, of Monessen, passed away peacefully with his family at his side Wednesday, November 21, 2012, in Monongahela Valley Hospital.

He was born March 28, 1923, in Monessen, son of the late Rosario and Angelina Naccarato Falbo.

Mr. Falbo was a lifelong resident of Monessen and a 1941 graduate of Monessen High School.

He was an active member of the community and a member of Epiphany of Our Lord Roman Catholic Church and its Holy Name Society, Knights of Columbus Council 954, Post 1190 Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 28 American Legion, Mon Valley Leathernecks, Italian Society of Mutual Aid and Italian-American Heritage Society. He was a former member of Monessen Elks and Kiwanis Club. Mr. Falbo was an avid Monessen Greyhounds fan, having attended numerous sporting events, and also was a car buff who enjoyed tinkering with his cars in his spare time.

He retired as executive director of Washington County Industrial Development Authority and had previously served as executive director for Washington Chamber of Commerce and Monessen Chamber of Commerce.

A technical sergeant with the U.S. Marines, he served as a tail gunner during World War II in the South Pacific Theater.

Surviving are his wife of 63 years, Bruna Lubrani Falbo; two daughters, Jill Chelko and companion Nick Fosco of Erie and Carlyn and Gene Belczyk of Monessen; son and daughter-in-law Scott and Michele Falbo of Monessen; seven grandchildren, Amy (Pat) Lord, Jacob (Caroline) Belczyk, Rebecca Chelko, Joshua (Tonya) Belczyk, Elizabeth (Jason) Russell, Elaine (Josh) Tait and Bailey Falbo; nine great-grandchildren, Caleb, Anthony, Ella, Hunter, Levi, Max, Isla, Sasha and Michael; sister-in-law Jane Falbo of Monessen; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, deceased are three sisters, Josephine and Edith Falbo and Lena (Caesar) Beneccio; and 11 brothers, Victor, Raymond, Joseph (Helen), Albert (Margaret), Ernest, Leonard (Lena), Charles (Inge), Frank, Victor (Jean), George and Roger Falbo.

Friends will be received from 1 to 3 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday in Dalfonso-Billick Funeral Home Inc. and Cremation Services, 441 Reed Avenue, Monessen. Services will be held Saturday, November 24, beginning with a 9 a.m. blessing in the funeral home followed by a 9:30 a.m. funeral Mass in Epiphany of Our Lord Church, Monessen. Entombment will follow in Mon Valley Memorial Park, Donora.

Mr. Falbo was instrumental in initiating the Monessen Meals on Wheels Program, thus the family suggests memorial contributions be made to Monessen Meals on Wheels, 1124 Dennis Avenue, Monessen, PA 15062.

The following services will be held Friday evening in the funeral home: Mon Valley Leathernecks at 6 p.m., American Legion Post 28 and VFW Post 1190 at 6:30 p.m. and Knights of Columbus Council 954 at 7 p.m.
