Milo Briggs Sr.

Milo “Mike” Briggs Sr., 80, of Washington, died Saturday, November 24, 2012, in his home, surrounded by his family.

He was born January 5, 1932, in Washington, a son of the late Ray and Mary Crile Briggs.

Mr. Briggs attended Trinity schools.

He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. After the war, he was stationed at Fort Bragg and later at Fort Stewart, before being honorably discharged in 1961.

Mr. Briggs was a member of American Legion Post 744 of Washington, Laboratory Presbyterian Church and the traveling men’s choir. He was a former member of Waynesburg Eagles, Washington Eagles 687, Moose Club 22 and Veterans of Foreign Wars 927.

He enjoyed karaoke and was an avid bowler and hunter.

On June 8, 1953, he married Martha L. Owens, who died January 10, 1995.

Surviving are six children, Milo “Dude” Briggs of Washington, Sandee (Gary) Stokum of Burgettstown, Kathy (Rob) Roberts of Scenery Hill, Christy (Rich) Kelley of Eighty Four, Jeffrey (Patty) Briggs of West Newton and Nancianne Hall of Minden Mines, Mo.; a sister, Maxine Barker of Eighty Four; two brothers, Ivan “Ike” Briggs of Washington and Lawrence Briggs of Amity; 11 grandchildren, Jesse Stokum, Chris Stokum, Trevor Roberts, Tyler Roberts, Lauren Kelley, Chelsie Kelley, Trista Briggs, Samantha Briggs, James Briggs, Bryanna Briggs and Sammy A. Romeo; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Deceased, in addition to his wife and parents, are a son, Merle Briggs; four sisters, Lois Henderson, Louise Reed, Gwendola Briggs and Jean Lyle; and four brothers, Dutch Garrett, Harold Garrett, Ray Briggs Jr. and Donald Briggs.

Family and friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday in Nichol Funeral Home, 1873 East Maiden Street, Washington, where services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, November 29, with Pastor Linda Mankey officiating. Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Garden, McMurray.
