W. Joan Mason

W. Joan Mason, 79, of Cameron, W.Va., formerly of Waynesburg, died at 11 a.m. Monday, November 26, 2012, in her home, after being in failing health for the past two years.

She was born April 7, 1933, in Cameron, a daughter of the late George Patrick and Flossie Mae Wellman Finnegan.

Mrs. Mason had resided in the Waynesburg area from 1965 until returning to Cameron in 1993.

She had been a member of First Christian Church in Cameron for more than 50 years and attended Cameron High School.

Mrs. Mason also was a member of Cameron Moose Lodge 591.

She was an employee of the former Cameron Pottery and Buckheimer Leather Factory in Cameron, the former Albert’s Restaurant for 10 years and the former Triangle Hotel, both in Waynesburg. She was employed as a tacker at the former Greenway Shirt Factory for more than 21 years and the former Flushing Shirt Factory for eight years, both in Waynesburg, prior to retiring in 1995.

Surviving are two daughters, Diane McCorkle of McClellandtown and Doris, wife of Rick Lovering of St. Petersburg, Fla.; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; a brother, John Milton Finnegan of Aurora, Colo.; two sisters, Helen Marling and Nancy Cumpston, both of Cameron; and several nieces and nephews.

Deceased, in addition to her parents, are a daughter, Carrie Beth Durbin; a son, Gary Chester Mason; a grandson, Harry Keith Durbin; five sisters, Patty Jones, Dorothy Druschell, Doris Wood Hunt, Eileen Riggs and Clairetta Finnegan, who died in infancy; and two brothers, George A. Finnegan and Donald Finnegan, who died in infancy.

At the request of the deceased, there will be no public visitation or funeral services. Mrs. Mason requested donations be made to First Christian Church, Cameron, WV 26033.
