Earl K. Baer

U.S. Army veteran

Earl K. Baer, formerly of Washington, died Friday, November 16, 2012, in National Park, N.J.

He was born December 4, 1933, in Washington, a son of the late John and Lucille Baer.

Mr. Baer proudly served in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict and was an active member of the National Park Garrison and American Legion.

He was a member of First United Methodist Church of National Park.

Mr. Baer was a graduate of Trinity High School and former member of First Christian Church of Washington.

He was employed at Kress Box Co., prior to serving in the Army.

Surviving are his wife, Marion, of National Park; a son, Bryan Baer of Ohio; two stepsons, Rob Jaconi (Kathy) and Ron Jaconi (Linda); a stepdaughter, Michelle Marshall (Don); a sister, Beverly Van Briggle of Washington; six grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Deceased are two brothers, Bernard and John, and two sisters, Emma Ray and Kathryn Jones.

Burial with military rites was in Woodbury, N.J. Memorials may be sent to First Methodist Church, 414 Asbury Avenue, National Park, NJ 08063.

Andrew Bartusiak

U.S. Army veteran loved farming

Andrew Bartusiak, 86, of Washington, died at 10:45 p.m. Wednesday, November 28, 2012, in Donnell House, Washington.

He was born March 1, 1926, on his family farm in Canton Township (Washington), a son of the late Andrew Bartusiak Sr. and Alexandria Sawchuck Bartusiak.

Mr. Bartusiak was a member of St. Michael’s Byzantine Catholic Church in Canonsburg and Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Washington.

He was a graduate of Trinity High School and had attended the University of Pittsburgh, Penn State University and Duquesne University.

Mr. Bartusiak was employed for 25 years as a veterans representative for the State Employment Office until his retirement.

The love of his life was farming, hunting and fishing, but most special to him were great times spent with his family and grandchildren and their many sports he shared with them. He cherished them to the fullest.

Mr. Bartusiak served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a member of American Legion Edwin Scott Linton Post 175, AIMS and the Pennsylvania State Employees Association.

On July 4, 1953, he married Marian Kuzy Bartusiak, who survives.

Also surviving are a son, Dr. Robert Andrew (Susan) Bartusiak of Upper St. Clair and children Jenna Marlo (Lucas) Feldmeier of Houston, Texas, and Alexa Jo Bartusiak of Upper St. Clair; a son, Dr. Barry Franklyn (Kristi) Bartusiak of Upper St. Clair and children Andrew Alexander Bartusiak, Taylor Jo Bartusiak, Madison Grace Bartusiak and Brady Franklyn Bartusiak, all of Upper St. Clair; two nieces, Dr. Sandy Reichert (Dr. Fred) Ciarrochi of Dallas, Texas, and Dr. Carol Jean Reichert (Dr. Kurt) Boggs of Prescott, Ariz.; and three nephews, George (Diana) Cherpas of Spartanburg, S.C., David Cherpas of Akron, Ohio, and Mark (Cindy) Subrick of Washington.

Deceased are three sisters, Anna Cherpas, Stella Reichert and Helen Subrick.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday in Warco-Falvo Funeral Home Inc., Wilson at E. Katherine Avenues, Washington, S. Timothy Warco, supervisor/director, Susan Falvo Warco, director, S. Timothy Warco II, director. A prayer service will be held at 9 a.m. Monday, December 3, in the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in Immaculate Conception Church, Washington, with the Rev. Sarah M. Bucciarelli, 86, of Waynesburg, died at 9:10 a.m. Thursday, November 29, 2012, in Donnell House, Washington.

Michael William Castellino

1926 – 2012

Michael William “Bill” Castellino, 86, of Burgettstown, died Wednesday evening, November 28, 2012, at Wyngate Senior Living Community in Weirton, W.Va.

He was born September 15, 1926, in Burgettstown, a son of the late William and Philimia Cavalier Castellino.

A 1944 graduate of Union High School, Burgettstown, he received his bachelor of science degree in education from the University of Pittsburgh.

From January 1944 to February 1947, he served in the U.S. Army Air Forces during World War II in Germany and the European Theater.

Mr. Castellino was a partner of Coll Tire Distributors before owning Bill’s Tire Center in Burgettstown and served as a past director of Lincoln Bank.

He was a parishioner of Our Lady of Lourdes Roman Catholic Church, Burgettstown, a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 3440, the Burgettstown American Legion and VFW, the Burgettstown Italian Club and the Polish Club.

His wife, Jean Gilbert Pappas Castellino, survives.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, are a brother, Robert Castellino and wife Rose of Jupiter, Fla.; two sons, William Castellino of New York City, N.Y., and Thomas Castellino and wife Cheryl of Wallace, N.C.; four stepchildren, Charles Pappas Jr., husband of the late Michele of Burgettstown, Timothy Pappas of Atlanta, Ga., Leslie Pappas Miller and husband Charles of Marathon, Fla., and Daniel Pappas and wife Regina of Burgettstown; grandchildren Brian Castellino and wife Amanda (and their children, William and Nolan) and Brad Castellino; and five stepgrandchildren, Lauren Miller Hooper and husband Ryan, Marissa Pappas Kotouch and husband Ron of Jupiter (and their son, Liam), Erika Miller, Anthony Pappas and wife Kearsten of Jupiter (and their children, Zakkary, Alexzander, Krystopher, Jakkob and Nathyn) and Lilliana Pappas.

In addition to his parents, deceased are his first wife, Catherine McGivern Castellino, who died in 1978, and a brother, Joseph Castellino, who died in 2010.

Friends will be received from 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday in Lee & Martin Funeral Home, 73 Highland Avenue, Burgettstown. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday, December 3, in Our Lady of Lourdes Roman Catholic Church, Burgettstown, with the Rev. George Moneck, pastor, as celebrant. Interment with full military honors will follow in Our Lady of Lourdes Cemetery, Burgettstown. Ward Iams Dran

U.S. Air Force veteran

Ward Iams Dran, 75, of Amity, died Tuesday, November 27, 2012, in Golden Living of South Hills, Canonsburg.

He was born November 1, 1937, in Donora, a son of the late Andrew and Sue Iams Dran.

Mr. Ward was a 1956 graduate of Trinity High School and went on to graduate from Waynesburg College.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and was a self-employed surveyor.

Mr. Ward was a member of North Ten Mile Baptist Church.

On April 30, 1965, in Amity, he married Cinda Sue Irey, who died January 17, 2007.

Surviving are a daughter, Amy J. Dran (Matthew) Abrew of Plainfield, Ill.; a brother, George (Sandy) Dran of Canonsburg; four grandsons, Marley, Brodie, Cale and Perry Abrew; and several nieces and nephews.

Deceased is a son, Marcus Eli Dran, and brother, Jack Dran.

Vera Frances Everett, of Dormont and Mt. Lebanon, died Thursday, November 29, 2012.

She was the mother of Linda Secreti, Karen Sager and the late Nancy Lane; grandmother of Samuel and Mark Secreti, Jody Johnston and Brad Diess; and great-grandmother of Mason Secreti and Chase and Madison Johnston.

Robert T. Graham

Member of Avery U.M. Church

Robert T. Graham, 82, of Washington, died Thursday, November 29, 2012, in his home.

He was born January 29, 1930, in Lagonda, a son of John Scott Graham and Helen Holmes Graham.

On November 15, 1951, he entered the U.S. Marine Corps. For his service, he received the National Defense Service Medal and was honorably discharged November 6, 1953.

Mr. Graham was a machinist and retired from Frazier Simplex Inc.

He was a member of Avery United Methodist Church and the church’s dartball team, the senior golf group at Dogwood Hills, Washington County Seniors Bowling League, Nemacolin Bowling League and Edwin Scott Linton Post 175 of the American Legion.

On June 2, 1951, he married Mona Lea Andrew, who survives.

Also surviving are two daughters, Beth (Michael) Shannon of Midland, Beaver County, and Pamela (Stanley) Varner of Washington; a brother, Charles Richard Graham; four grandchildren, Bryan (Rachel) Shannon of Beaver Falls, Christopher (Erin) Shannon of Ashburn, Va., and Kimberly Johnson and Ginger Strope, both of Washington; and five great-grandchildren, Carlee Shannon and Joseph, Sheridan, Savannah and Siearra Johnson.

A brother, John Raymond Graham, is deceased.

Julia Ann Popp Jackson

Dedicated member of St. Hugh’s R.C. Church

Julia Ann Popp Jackson, 98, died Thursday, November 29, 2012, in her home in Carmichaels, after a brief illness.

She was born May 29, 1914, in Klimer.

Surviving are four sons, R. Thomas (Robin), Terrence (Melissa), Timothy (Rebecca) and Jeffrey (Melinda); 13 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; a brother, John Popp of Akron, Ohio; and a sister, Mary Teare of Grove City.

Deceased are her husband, Russell; her parents, John and Suzanne Popp; sisters Elizabeth Olah and Suzanne Cantor; and a brother, George Popp.

She was for more than 60 years a dedicated member of St. Hugh’s Roman Catholic Church, where she taught first grade catechism and participated in the Rosary Society.

Mrs. Jackson adopted the interests of her family and became an avid sports fan.

She loved to cook and expected those who came to her home to sit down and eat.

Talon Nicholas Meyer, stillborn son of Greg and Leah Meyer of Odenton, Md., died Friday, November 23, 2012.

WWII veteran

Joseph J. Wehar, 88, of Bethel Park, died Thursday, November 29, 2012.

He was the beloved husband of Donna; loving father of Joseph (Ann) Wehar Jr., Catherine (Phillip) Didion, Linda (Daniel) Coyle, James (Susan) Wehar, Carol (David) Miller and Glenn (Kathryn) Wehar; cherished grandfather of David, Stephen, Emily, Phillip, Ashley, Laura, Andrew, Michael, Lauren and Annie; beloved great-grandfather of Kayden and Kennedy; and brother of Frank Wehar Jr., Lawrence Wehar, Agnes Lewandowski, Louis (Marlene) Wehar and the late Andrew, Jacob, Robert and Rita.

Mr. Wehar was a U.S. Army veteran during World War II, receiving three bronze stars for his service in the European, African and Middle Eastern campaigns.
