Frank J. Palermo Sr. Owner of Cozy Barber Shop for more than 40 years

Frank J. Palermo Sr., 92, of Washington, died Sunday, September 30, 2012, in Southmont of Presbyterian SeniorCare, Washington.

He was born September 6, 1920, in Moliterno, Italy, son of Francesco and Maria Mastrangelo Palermo.

Mr. Palermo served in the U.S. Army Air Corps in the Pacific Theater as a staff sergeant from 1942 through 1946, receiving the American Theater Ribbon, the Asiatic-Pacific Theater Ribbon with two bronze stars, the Good Conduct Medal and the World War II Victory Medal.

Mr. Palermo was a lifelong member of Immaculate Conception Church, where he also served as an usher at 10:30 a.m. Mass for 25-plus years.

He was a graduate of Washington High School.

Mr. Palermo owned and operated Cozy Barber Shop with his brother, James Miscio, for more than 40 years.

He was an active swimmer, golfer and avid Notre Dame football fan. Mr. Palermo and his wife spent their winters for 23 years after his retirement in Stuart, Fla. He also loved to play golf with his sons and grandchildren. Spending time with his family was most important to him.

Mr. Palermo was very active and served as chairman with the Washington Parks and Recreation Committee. He also was a life member and Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus Council 1083, member of the BPOE Elks Lodge 776, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 927, the Item Club and for more than 60 years was a member of American Legion Edwin Scott Linton Post 175.

On August 6, 1947, he married Marguerite Verrone Palermo, who died May 3, 2009.

Surviving are two sons, John (JoAnn) Palermo of Bedford, N.H., and Frank J. (Amy) Palermo Jr. of Pittsburgh; sister Rose Miscio of Harwich, Mass.; six grandchildren, Emily Knier, Katie Worthy, Frank J. Palermo III, Anne Palermo, John F. Palermo and Annie Chamberlain; two great-grandchildren, Olivia Knier and Anne Worthy; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Deceased are four brothers, Mike Miscio, Joe Miscio, Vic Miscio and James Miscio, and four sisters, Margaret Andy, Jeanny DeFalbo, Evelyn Mastrangelo and Agnes Albano.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday in Warco-Falvo Funeral Home Inc., Wilson at E. Katherine avenues, Washington, S. Timothy Warco, supervisor/director, Susan Falvo Warco, director, S. Timothy Warco II, director. A prayer service will be held at 9 a.m. Wednesday, October 3, in the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in Immaculate Conception Church, Washington, with Father Nicholas Spirko as celebrant. Entombment will follow in Queen of Heaven Mausoleum, Peters Township.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the National MS Society, Allegheny District, Suite 105, 1501 Reedsdale Street, Pittsburgh, PA 15233.

The rosary will be recited by the Knights of Columbus Council 1083 at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home.

Full military rites will be accorded by American Legion Edwin Scott Linton Post 175 and the U.S. Army.
