James J. Spiller

James J. Spiller, 98, of Washington, formerly of Houston, passed away Monday, October 1, 2012, in Strabane Woods, South Strabane Township. He was born February 15, 1914, in Chartiers Township, a son of the late Batista and Domenica Rigetti Spiller. Mr. Spiller lived his entire life in Houston and was member of St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church in Canonsburg. Prior to his retirement in 1969, he was employed as a mine foreman with Mathis Coal Pittsburgh Consolidated. Mr. Spiller was an avid fisherman and bowler and loved to be with his family, to whom he was always extremely generous. On October 10, 1936, he married Anna M. Christy, who died November 6, 1996. Surviving are two daughters, Marlyn Presto of Houston and Helen (Randy) Mathura of Davidsonville, Md.; a son, Robert J. (Paulette) Spiller of Washington; a brother, Robert Spiller of Houston; six grandchildren; 11 grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Deceased, in addition to his wife, are three brothers, Henry, Frank and Joseph Spiller. Friends are welcome from 2 to 8 p.m. Wednesday in Salandra Funeral Service Inc., Joseph P. Salandra, owner/supervisor, 304 West Pike Street, Canonsburg, 724-745-8120, where a blessing service will be held at 9:30 a.m. Thursday, October 4. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. in St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church, Canonsburg. Interment will follow in St. Patrick Cemetery.
