James E. Cumer Sr.

James E. Cumer Sr., 84, of Canonsburg, passed away Thursday, October 4, 2012, in Canonsburg General Hospital. He was born March 29, 1928, in Canonsburg, a son of the late Joseph and Elizabeth Fee Cumer. Mr. Cumer served with the U.S. Army during World War II with the 98th General Hospital and received the Army of Occupation Medal. He retired as a longwall coal miner from Bailey Mines. Mr. Cumer lived most of his life in Canonsburg. Surviving are three sons, James (Linda) Cumer Jr. and Daniel (Doureen) Cumer, both of Canonsburg, and Steven (Marcia Lynn) Cumer of Carrolton, Va.; four grandchildren, Daniel, Heather, Brad and Joseph; and three great-grandchildren, Tyler, Hallee and Sebastian. Deceased are his beloved wife, Mary R. Roessler; a daughter, Tammy Cumer; and a granddaughter, Amanda. Family and friends are welcome from 2 to 3 p.m. Sunday in Salandra Funeral Service Inc., Joseph P. Salandra, owner/supervisor, 304 West Pike Street, Canonsburg, 724-745-8120. A Committal Service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, October 8, in Forest Lawn Garden, McMurray, with the Rev. Donald Austin officiating. Please meet the family at the chapel by 9:50 a.m. Interment will follow in the cemetery. Full military honors will be accorded by combined honor guard of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 191 of Canonsburg and American Legion Post 902 of Houston.
