Vietnam War veteran enjoyed volunteering

Rolland W. Holsopple, 68, of Houston, passed away following a brief illness Thursday, October 4, 2012, in Washington Hospital, surrounded by his family. He was born August 11, 1944, in Washington, son of the late Ross and Sarah Thomas Holsopple. Mr. Holsopple was a graduate of Monongahela High School. He served with the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War with the 49th AP Squadron. He also served in the Army National Guard, retiring as a master sergeant in 1987. During that time, he helped with the Johnstown flood and was a senior trainer for the NCO Academy. Mr. Holsopple worked for the former Hankison Corp. as production manager and retiring from A. Stucki Co. as vice president of international operations. He was a lifelong resident of Southwestern Pennsylvania; for the last 24 years, he lived in the Chartiers Township-Houston area, where he enjoyed volunteering for its football boosters, parks and recreation and the Chartiers-Houston Public Library and coaching youth sports. He especially enjoyed spending time with friends and family. On May 27, 1987, he married his beloved wife, Tracy Yingst, who survives. Also surviving are two daughters, Kara Holsopple of Pittsburgh and Krisha (Shane) Konton of Canonsburg; son Alex Holsopple of Houston; two granddaughters, Ava and Allyse Konton; brother Harold (Cindy) Holsopple of Finleyville; and several nieces and nephews. Family and friends are welcome from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday in Salandra Funeral Service Inc., Joseph P. Salandra, owner/supervisor, 304 West Pike Street, Canonsburg, 724-745-8120, where a Celebration of Life service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, October 10, with Pastor Glenn McCelland officiating. Interment will follow at 12:30 p.m. in National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, Cecil Township. Full military honors will be accorded by the combined honor guard of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 191 Canonsburg and American Legion Post 902 of Houston.
