Don Mounts Cummins Sr.

WWII veteran was AT&T retiree Don Mounts Cummins Sr., 90, of Washington, died Wednesday, October 10, 2012, in Donnell House, Washington. He was born November 27, 1921, in Washington. Mr. Cummins was a 1939 graduate of Washington High School. After serving in the 4th Marine Division throughout World War II, he worked for AT&T until he retired. After AT&T, he continued with his own business installing and repairing business phone systems, until a few years ago. He was a member of Marine Corps League, Syria Temple and Eastern Star. Mr. Cummins sang with the Church of the Covenant for more than 65 years, First United Methodist Church for the last few years, Syria Chanters, Washington Festival Chorale and Washington Area Senior Citizens and performed in many of the musicals with Washington Community Theater at Washington Park. On August 27, 1947, he married Lois Irene Beard, who is deceased. Surviving are two sons, Don (Anne) Cummins II of Washington and David (Laura) Cummins of Bethel Park; four grandchildren, Don M. Cummins III of Mahopac, N.Y., Dawn Gribble of North Carolina, Michelle Cummins of Arkansas and Kristin Wakefield of Pleasanton, Calif; stepgrandchildren Michael Cummins of Tennessee and Aram Asarian and Adrienne and Joshua Tomsic, all of Washington; seven great-grandchildren; and a daughter-in-law, Tracey Cummins of Washington. Deceased are a son, Richard, and a sister, Catherine Alcott. Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday and 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday in Hummell and Jones Funeral Home, 420 Locust Avenue, Washington, Thomas W. Hummell, supervisor, Douglas M. Jones, director, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, October 16, with the Rev. Stuart Broberg officiating. Entombment will follow in Washington Cemetery.
