Harry L. Mankey
Harry L. Mankey, 88, of Washington, died Friday, October 19, 2012, in Presbyterian SeniorCare-Southmont, Washington.
He was born September 6, 1924, in Amwell Township, a son of the late Roy O. and Cathrine Phillips Mankey.
Mr. Mankey worked for more than 40 years at Tygart Valley, which later became Brockway Glass.
He proudly served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the Pacific Theater with the 502 AAF Anti Aircraft Battalion.
Mr. Mankey was a lifelong member of Lone Pine Christian Church, where he served as a deacon and member of the cemetery board. He was a member of American Legion Post 175 of Washington and Amwell Historical Society.
He enjoyed farming and spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Mr. Mankey was married to Mabel K. Bowman Mankey for more than 62 years before she died October 7, 2008.
Surviving are three children, Betty K. (Dennis) Cunningham of Amity, Lee E. (Joan) Mankey of Strabane and Rita A. (Larry) Wright of Amity; a sister, Dora Hatfield of Dubois; seven grandchildren, David Cunningham, Tammy (David) Koteles, Christy Cunningham, Joshua (Carla) Mankey, Carl (Lynnette) Mankey, Steven (Mindy) Wright and Adam (Abbey) Wright; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Deceased, in addition to his parents and wife, are a daughter, Helen Marie Mankey, and a brother, Ray Mankey.
Family and friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday in Nichol Funeral Home, 1873 East Maiden Street, Washington, PA 15301, where services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, October 23, with Pastor Linda Mankey officiating.
