Edward Gerald Herrod
Edward Gerald Herrod, 76, of Albany, Ga., formerly of Waynesburg, died Tuesday, October 16, 2012, in Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital, Albany. He was born January 27, 1936, in Waynesburg, a son of the late Porter and Marie Herrod.Mr. Herrod was a 1954 graduate of Waynesburg High School, where he was an outstanding wrestler.He was a veteran of the Vietnam War. He retired from the U.S. Marine Corps and the Georgia National Guard after 30 years of service.After military retirement, he was employed with Andersonville National Cemetery.Mr. Herrod was a Baptist.Surviving are two sons, Edward Gerald Herrod Jr. and Cary Herrod, both of Albany; two daughters, Mary Jane Etherton of Albany and Sabrina Miller of Odessa, Texas; two brothers, Dick Herrod of Waynesburg and Paul Herrod of Burgettstown; three sisters, Anna Harmon of Washington State, Ruth Wade of Waynesburg and Leona Lemmon of Rices Landing; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.Deceased, in addition to his parents, are his wife, Mary Lois Culpepper Herrod; a daughter, Nancy Karen Massey; and three brothers, Melvin, Jack and Porter Herrod Jr.Services were held Friday, October 19, followed by burial with military honors in Andersonville National Cemetery.
