Sarah M. “Sally” Benkart, 71, of Pittsburgh, died at 8:48 p.m. Sunday, October 21, 2012, in the home of her sister, Jo Ann Paolino, in Waynesburg, following a brief illness.She was born in Pittsburgh, a daughter of the late Lawrence Edward and Mabel Eleanor Colwell Benkart. She had been a resident of the Bellevue area all her life.Miss Benkart was a 1959 graduate of Assissi High School in Bellevue.She enjoyed her neighborhood friends, playing bingo and the lottery.Miss Benkart was employed as a nurse’s aide at St. John’s Hospital in Pittsburgh for several years, prior to retiring because of ill health.Surviving are two sisters, Jo Ann Paolino of Waynesburg and Norma Grace Hennel of Parma, Ohio; her caregivers, three nieces, Carol Hurley, Doris Richardson Turkovich and Kelly Paolino; and several additional nieces and nephews.Deceased, in addition to her parents, are five brothers and two sisters.She leaves behind two favorite animals, dogs Baby and Mitzi.At the request of the family, there will be no public visitation or service. Interment will be private and held at the convenience of the family. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to your local humane society or your local chapter of American Cancer Society.
