Gertrude Lillian “Penny” Andrews, 94, of Washington, died Saturday, September 22, 2012, in Donnell House, Washington, following a brief illness.
She was born January 5, 1918, in Cameron, W.Va., a daughter of the late Albert Wesley and Frances D. Courtwright Kerns.
Mrs. Andrews attended North Buffalo Presbyterian Church.
She was a 1936 graduate of Cameron High School.
Mrs. Andrews had worked for J.C. Penney in Wheeling and later at Montgomery Ward and PNC Bank in Washington.
She enjoyed reading, dancing, playing cards and, most of all, being grandma to her many grandchildren and baking all those cookies. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Mrs. Andrews was a member of Edwin Scott Linton Post 175 of the American Legion’s Women’s Auxiliary and Ladies of the Elks Lodge 776.
On September 27, 1945, in Wheeling, she married Leroy L. Andrews, who died May 24, 1988.
Surviving are a daughter, Deborah (Henry) Muncie of Washington, with whom she made her home for many years; 14 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; and 13 great-great-grandchildren.
Deceased are three daughters, Sonya Irwin, Bonita McMurdy and Karen Georgetti; a granddaughter, Traci Irwin Siwiak; a sister, Wanda Jacobs; a brother, Walter Kerns; and her first husband, Aaron Joseph O’Neill.
Friends will received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday in Piatt and Barnhill Funeral Home, 420 Locust Avenue, Washington, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, September 25, with the Rev. Craig Kephart officiating. Interment will follow in West Point Cemetery, Avella.
