Herbert Jay Shure Owned H&M Distributing
Herbert Jay Shure, 82, of Washington, died Monday, September 24, 2012.
He was born January 2, 1930, in Brownsville, the son of the late Reuben and Sara Kaufman Shure.
Mr. Shure was a graduate of Brownsville High School and the University of Michigan. He attended graduate school in business at the University of Pittsburgh.
He and his wife, the former Marilyn Grossman, moved to Washington in 1956 and opened a retail store. The business evolved into a wholesale clothing company, H&M Distributing, named after their initials. The business was located at 289 North Avenue from 1973 to 2005, at which time it became an investment company.
His hobbies included tennis, racquetball, duplicate bridge and walking his dog, Bagels, all over town. He also taught Sunday school at Beth Israel Synagogue.
Along with his wife of 58 years, surviving are sons Dr. Richard Shure of Windermere, Fla., and Robert Shure and wife Lori of Mt. Lebanon and grandchildren Abby, Jacob, Molly, Sara Margaret and Phillip.
Deceased is a sister, Anna Reba Steinberg.
There will be no visitation. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, September 27, in Piatt & Barnhill Funeral Home, 420 Locust Avenue, Washington, with Rabbi Mark J. Mahler officiating. Immediately following services, interment will take place at Beth Israel Cemetery on Oak Spring Road.
