John R. Conklin Jr.

John R. Conklin Jr., 91, of Franklin Township, Butler County, passed away at 10:41 a.m. Friday, March 29, 2013, in his home.

He was born October 23, 1921, in Waynesburg, a son of the late John R. Conklin Sr. and Bellva Marie Yost Conklin.

Mr. Conklin was a member of First United Methodist Church.

He was a store manager for National Supply Co. for 30 years, retiring in July 1977.

Mr. Conklin wrestled for Waynesburg High School and Waynesburg College.

He was a sergeant in the U.S. Army Air Corps, serving in World War II.

Mr. Conklin was a member of William H. Miller Lodge 769 F&AM and Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite Valley of New Castle, where he was a 32nd-degree Mason.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing and all outdoor sports.

Surviving are four sons, Robert J. Conklin and wife Bonnie of Butler, James C. Conklin and wife Denise of Denver, Colo., William “Doug” Conklin and wife Kathy of Butler and Michael B. Conklin and wife Choei of Butler; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; a number of nieces and nephews; and a sister, Pat Hrutkay of Coal Center.

Deceased, in addition to his parents, are his wife, Mary Elizabeth Perry Conklin, whom he married June 22, 1942, and who passed away November 5, 2009; two sisters; and two brothers.

There will be no public visitation. A private memorial service will be held at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are being handled by Thompson-Miller Funeral Home Inc., 124 East North Street, Butler, PA 16001. Condolences may be given at www.thompson-miller.com.
