Sherdel T. Everly, 83, of Garards Fort (Headlee Heights), passed away quietly Easter Sunday, March 31, 2013, in his home, with his loving family at his side.
Born September 8, 1929, in Garards Fort, he was a son of the late Guy E. and Lillian Titus Everly.
A 1947 graduate of Mapletown High School, he served in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict.
He also graduated from Waynesburg College with his bachelor of science degree and from West Virginia University with his master’s degree in education and continued there to pursue his doctorate.
For more than 33 years, Mr. Everly taught a countless number of students in history and social studies at Mapletown High School in the Southeastern Greene School District.
He was an active outdoorsman and dedicated member of Greensboro Baptist Church, where he served as deacon, trustee and treasurer for more than 30 years.
Surviving are his wife of 61 years, Mary Lou Miller Everly, whom he married July 12, 1951; two children, Dr. Vicki Everly and husband Dr. Lee Smith of Morgantown, W.Va., and Kevin Everly and wife Scarlett of Shinnston, W.Va.; two granddaughters, Jodi Hartley, married to Curtis Hartley, and Cassandra Everly; a great-granddaughter and “best buddy,” Prudence Hartley; and a brother, Eugene Everly of Carmichaels. He also appreciated the company of his close and longtime friend, Jerry Michaels of Dilliner. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews he greatly enjoyed. His family was the world to him, and he will be dearly missed.
Honoring his wishes, there will be no services. Cremation arrangements are in the care of Richard R. Herod Funeral Home, Point Marion.
