William Carol VanDruff

William Carol VanDruff, 79, of Mt. Morris, died at 1:57 a.m. Monday, April 1, 2013, in his home, from an apparent heart attack.

He was born Saturday, April 8, 1933, in Spraggs, a son of the late Ralph F. VanDruff and Edith Knotts VanDruff.

Mr. VanDruff was a member of Claughton Chapel United Methodist Church.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served during the Korean War with the 1st Infantry Division, “The Big Red One.”

Mr. VanDruff was also a member of Waynesburg Masonic Lodge 153 F&AM, Pittsburgh Scottish Rite, Syria Shrine of Pittsburgh and Fort Jackson Chapter Sons of the American Revolution. He was a life member of the National Rifle Association and was an avid NASCAR fan. He also loved hunting, fishing, collecting marbles and doing geneological research.

Mr. VanDruff worked for local auto dealerships as a mechanic and body repairman. He also worked at the Uniontown and Washington airports in aviation repair. He was a foreman at Sterling Faucet in Morgantown, W.Va., and a mechanic for Consolidation Coal at Blacksville 2 Mine. He retired in 1994 from U.S. Steel Cyprus Cumberland Mine in Kirby with 25 years of service.

Surviving are his wife, Betty Adamson VanDruff, whom he married July 10, 1956; two daughters and their husbands, Pamela (John) Keller of Waynesburg and Darlene (Steve) Cogar of Waynesburg; a grandson, John Paul (Jennifer) Keller; three great-grandchildren, Hope Keller, Mackenzie Joyce and Maddison Joyce; a brother, Harold F. VanDruff of Waynesburg; and several nieces and nephews.

Deceased is a sister, Eleanor VanDruff.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday in Milliken and Throckmorton Funeral Home Inc., Daryl L. Throckmorton, owner/director, 197 North Maiden Street, Waynesburg, where services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, April 5, with Pastor Cristy Wise officiating. Burial will be in Fairview-Kiger Cemetery, Whiteley Township. Waynesburg Masonic Lodge 153 F&AM will hold a memorial service at 6 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home.
