Lance O. Weaver, 86, of Waynesburg, died at 10:05 p.m. Tuesday, April 2, 2013, in Washington Hospital.
He was born Thursday, October 7, 1926, in West Bethlehem Township, a son of the late Guy A. Weaver and Nellie Lewis Weaver.
Mr. Weaver served in the U.S. Navy in World War II, ending his tour going around the world on the U.S.S. Marquette after the war ended. He also had an even more enjoyable cruise to Alaska with his entire family, in 2007, to celebrate his and his wife’s 60th anniversary and 80th birthdays.
He was most recently a member of Sugar Grove Baptist Church but had been a member of Mount Zion Baptist Church for more than 70 years, having served as church moderator for many years.
Mr. Weaver was extremely active in Lions Club, serving as Lions 14-M district governor in 1974-75. He served as president of Waynesburg Lions Club in 1968-69, and served as treasurer of the club for more than 35 years. He also served as the district chairman for Pennsylvania Lions Sight Conservation and Eye Research Foundation for 37 years and was on its board of directors for six years. He was a member of the board of directors of Beacon Lodge Camp for the Blind for 29 years. He was a Melvin Jones Fellow, a Pennsylvania Lions Fellow and a Ross DiMarco Fellow.
He was a member of Waynesburg Lodge 153, Free and Accepted Masons, a 32nd Degree Mason, a member of Valley of Pittsburgh Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite and a life member of Shriners International.
Mr. Weaver also was a member of James Farrell Post 330 American Legion in Waynesburg.
In his leisure time, he enjoyed bass fishing and travel.
Mr. Weaver worked for 28 years for PennDOT, retiring in 1988 as equipment manager.
Surviving are his wife of 65 years, Loretta Topolsky Weaver, whom he married February 10, 1948.
Also surviving are a son and his wife, Jeffrey L.(Robin) Weaver of St. Louis, Mo.; two grandchildren, Michele Weaver and Daniel Weaver; a great-grandchild, Skylar Hahn; and several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Weaver was the last of his immediate family.
Deceased are a daughter, Lynn Weaver, who died in infancy; a sister, Mildred Sherry; and three brothers, Floyd Weaver, Roy Weaver and Chester Weaver.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Friday in Milliken and Throckmorton Funeral Home Inc., Daryl L. Throckmorton, owner/director, 197 North Maiden Street, Waynesburg, PA 15370, where services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 6, with Pastor Frank Vucic officiating. Burial will be in Greene County Memorial Park, Morgan Township. Graveside military rites will be accorded by James Farrell American Legion Post 330 of Waynesburg and representatives of the U.S. Navy. The Waynesburg Lions Club will hold memorial services at 6 p.m. Friday in the funeral home. The family ask that in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to Pennsylvania Lions Sight Conservation and Eye Research Foundation Inc. (checks made to PLSCERF) and sent to Robert W.
