Edwin D. Hanlin, 67, passed away Wednesday, April 17, 2013, in his home, with his family by his side, after a courageous 18-month battle with cancer.

He was born December 21, 1945, in Steubenville, Ohio, a son of the late Clyde “Kelly” and Roselene M. Fox Hanlin.

Mr. Hanlin was a 1963 graduate of Union High School in Burgettstown, where he was active in football and track. He was a proud member of the undefeated 1958 Burgettstown football team.

He served in the U.S. Army as a sergeant during Vietnam and was stationed throughout Europe during his military service.

On August 15, 1968, he married Linda L. Lis, who survives.

Mr. Hanlin resided in Avella for more than 20 years, while working as a maintenance supervisor at Weirton Steel Corp. In 1998, he moved to Glen Dale, W.Va. and continued his career in maintenance as a superintendent at Bayer Corp.’s New Martinsville plant. He retired from Bayer in 2007.

In 2012, he relocated with his wife to Canonsburg to be closer to his daughters and grandchildren. He was elated to be living in a brand-new townhome and was looking forward to living closer to his family.

He was a devoted family man and an avid hunter. He enjoyed riding his collection of four-wheelers and spending time at the Ohio farm with his family. He especially looked forward to his annual bear hunting trip to Grand Lakes Stream, Maine. He was able to enjoy his last trip to Maine in September 2012 with his grandson, Zack Dandurand, where his grandson became a proud member of the Maine A-Team.

Surviving, in addition to his wife of 44 years, are two daughters, Kelly (Eric) Smith and Kim (Doug) Dandurand, both of South Fayette Township; four cherished grandchildren, Kasey and Camryn Smith and Davis and Zack Dandurand; two brothers, Gary (Jean) Hanlin of Bloomingdale, Ohio, and Jim (Pam) Hanlin of Cary, N.C.; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws and friends who will miss him dearly.

Relatives and friends are welcome from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday in Jerome A. Stefkovich Funeral Home Inc., 18 Campbell Street, Avella, PA 15312.
