Ernest Spotti
Ernest Spotti, 89, Gilmore, Cecil Township, died Saturday, April 27, 2013, in Veterans Administration Hospital, Aspinwall.
He was born May 14, 1923, in Cuddy, South Fayette, a son of the late Rinaldo and Josephine Cukryznski Spotti.
Mr. Spotti served as a sergeant in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II on the USS Birmingham. He was wounded in action twice, receiving two Purple Hearts.
He was a member of Cecil American Legion, Muse Independent Club and Westland Sportsman Club.
Mr. Spotti enjoyed gardening, trapping, socializing with friends at Muse Italian Club and spending time with family.
He was a truck driver for National Mining at Sygan before the war and worked as a shearman for Universal Cyclops until retirement in 1988.
Surviving are three daughters, Joann (James) Rohm of Cecil, Janet (Larry) Jones of Cecil and Theresa (Steve) Birk of Elkins, W.Va.; five grandchildren, Ephraim Jones of South Fayette Township, Justin (April) Jones of Cecil, Jenna (Chris) Lee of Morgantown, W.Va., Lauren Birk of Fairmont, W.Va., and Ashley (Mike) Oravitz of Rahway, N.J.; a great-grandchild, Tayton Lee of West Virginia; two sisters, Diane (Stanley “Stush”) Sadowsky of Lawrence and Regina Spotti of Robinson; and three brothers, Ray Spotti of Midway, Roland (Kathy) Spotti of Carnegie and Rinaldo (Linda) Spotti of Carnegie.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Lucy Spotti, in 2005; a daughter, Erlene Dowd, in 2005; a brother, John Spotti; and a sister, Blanche Tkach.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday in Coleman-Taylor Funeral Services, 3378 Millers Run Road, Route 50, Cecil, where services will be held at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 30, with Pastor Fred Soberg officiating.
Interment will follow in National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, Cecil Township, where military honors will be accorded by Veterans of Foreign Wars 191 and American Legion Post 902 honor guard.
