George P. Ward
George P. Ward, 75, of Avella, died at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, April 28, 2013, in Washington County Health Center, Chartiers Township.
He was born July 21, 1937, in Burgettstown (Smith Township), a son of the late George H. and Bertha A. Freshwater Ward.
Mr. Ward was employed by Sutherland Lumber Co. of Burgettstown for about 20 years.
He was a member of Avella Presbyterian Church, Sons of American Legion Bert C. Siders Post 643 of Avella and Moose Lodge 22 of Washington.
Mr. Ward enjoyed riding his motorcycle, spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren, and keeping everyone entertained with his jokes.
On May 3, 1969, he married Ruth A. Robl, who died December 16, 2005.
Surviving are his fiancee, Ann Prevost of Avella; three daughters, Cynthia (Allen) Richard of Burgettstown, Flossie Dick of Spears and Kathy Robl of Cecil; three sons, Charles (April) Harrington of Sydney, Ohio, and Lloyd Ward and Roy Ward, both of Ohio; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; seven brothers, Jim (Emma) Ward of McDonald, Bill (Janet) Ward of Avella, Kenny Ward of Washington, Henry (Mary) Ward of Washington, Dave Ward of Burgettstown, Tom (Beth) Ward of Falling Water, W.Va., and Fred Ward of Washington; two sisters, Shirley (Jim) Piatt of Avella and Cleo (John) Crothers of Carnegie; and a sister-in-law, Carol Ward of Avella.
Preceding him in death, in addition to his wife and parents, are two sons, Bernard Ward and George Ward Jr.; three daughters, Angie Ward, Bertha Ward and Wanda Logan; and two brothers, Gerry and Wayne Ward.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday in Jerome A. Stefkovich Funeral Home Inc., 18 Campbell Street, Avella, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 1, with the Rev. Rich Narus officiating. Burial will be in West Point Cemetery, Avella.
