James William Hull, 80, of Washington, died Saturday, April 27, 2013, in Humbert Lane, South Strabane Township.

He was born October 12, 1932, in Washington, a son of John Vern and Lula Tau Hull.

A U.S. Navy veteran, Mr. Hull served during the Korean War aboard the USS Tarawa. For his service, he was awarded a Good Conduct Medal, Korean Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal, European Occupation Medal, China Service Medal and National Defense Service Medal.

Mr. Hull was an ironworker for 49 years through Local 3. After retiring, he worked as a school bus driver for Schweinebraten for 10 years.

He was known as a prankster and loved and enjoyed being with his grandchildren. In addition, he was a father-like uncle to many beloved nieces and nephews. Mr. Hull enjoyed gardening and especially enjoyed raising daylilies.

On December 19, 1958, he married Patrician Nelree Kelvington, who survives.

Also surviving are a son, James (Jan) Hull of Canonsburg; a daughter, Lesa (Robert) Garove of Washington; a brother, Jack (Louise) Hull of Erie; three sisters, Jane Westerfeld and Mary Ella Hull, both of Washington, and Nancy (Jerry) Kiralfy of Harrisburg; seven grandchildren, James Cody Hull, Derek Hull, Morgan Reilly, Jenna Reilly, Tiffany Garove, Robert (Leah) Garove and Michael (Holly) Garove; and three great-grandchildren, Peyton, Harlyn and Camden Garove.

Deceased are four brothers, Ralph, Dan, Wayne and Paul Hull.

Friends will be received from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday in William G. Neal Funeral Homes Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 1, with Pastor Nathan Miller officiating. Burial will follow in National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, Cecil Township. Military rites will be accorded graveside by American Legion Edwin Scott Linton Post 175.
