Kenneth W. Plants

Kenneth W. Plants, 83, of Claysville, formerly of East Finley Township, died at 8:10 p.m. Monday, April 29, 2013, in Canonsburg General Hospital, after being in failing health for the past several years.

He was born September 19, 1929, in East Finley Township, a son of the late Clyde Swaine Sr. and Grace Farine Allum Plants. He had been a resident of Claysville since 2008.

Mr. Plants was a member of Claysville United Methodist Church, Claysville American Legion Post 639 and McGuffey Senior Citizens.

He was a 1947 graduate of the former Claysville High School.

Mr. Plants was a veteran of the Korean War, serving as a corporal in the U.S. Army with Headquarters H & S Company, 23rd AEB, 3rd AD.

He was employed by the former Hazel Atlas Glass Factory and McAnallen Brothers Construction, both in Washington, and Wilkie Construction Co. in Claysville and was last employed as a welder by the former Jessop Steel Corp. in Washington for 37 years, prior to retiring in 1993.

Mr. Plants enjoyed spending time with his family, farming, game bird and coon hunting and listening to country music.

On June 14, 1958, he married Shirley Margaret Clutter, who survives.

Also surviving are a daughter, Rhonda, wife of Nick Fratto of Bridgeville; a son, Todd K. Plants of Wheeling, W.Va.; two grandchildren, Rocco and Sophia Fratto; a sister, Dorothy Stewart of Claysville; and several nieces and nephews.

Deceased, in addition to his parents, are two brothers, Clyde S. Plants Jr., who was killed in action during World War II, and Donald Plants; and a niece, Donna Plants Parsley.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday in Claysville United Methodist Church, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, May 3, with the Rev. Rico Vespa and the Rev. Meade Lacock co-officiating. Interment will follow in Claysville Cemetery. Graveside military rites will be accorded by representatives of the U.S. Army and Claysville American Legion Post 639. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to either Claysville American Legion Post 639 or Claysville United Methodist Church.
