James “Jim” Barton, 56, was born January 30, 1957, in London, England, and entered into rest Sunday, July 28, 2013, in his home in Fenton, Mo.

Deceased are his father, Frederick Barton, and a brother, John Barton.

Surviving are his wife, Mary Kinskey Barton, formerly of Washington; four children, Michael (Katheryn) Barton of St. Louis, Mo., Ian (Koga) Barton of Urbandale, Iowa, James Barton of Columbia, Mo., and Anna Barton, at home; two grandchildren, Jonathan Barton and Max Barton; his mother, Margaret Barton of Canonsburg; and seven siblings, Mary (Arthur) Hutchinson of England, Chris Barton of London, Fred (Holly) Barton of Hickory, Frank Barton of Canonsburg, David (Christine) Barton of Canonsburg, Penelope (Dave) Murphy of Baltimore, Md., and Andrew (Nicole) Barton of California state.

Mr. Barton will be fondly remembered and dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.

All services were held in Missouri.

Retired florist, served in Army and Navy

Gary Willis Chiff, 74, of Studio City, Calif., formerly of McDonald, died Wednesday, July 31, 2013.

He was born September 12, 1938, in McDonald, a son of the late Willis James “Neb” and Jennie Mae Dye Chiff.

Mr. Chiff served his country in both the Army and Navy.

He was a retired florist.

Deceased are two sisters, Betty Ruth (John) Prebeg and Janet Laura Bee (John) Stankowski; and a brother, Paul Richard “Rick” Chiff.

Surviving are two brothers, Raymond “Bob” Chiff and Willis James “Wiss” Chiff Jr.

Funeral arrangements are private.

Marilyn Daugherty, 87, of Claysville, died at 9 a.m. Friday, August 2, 2013, in Washington County Health Center, Chartiers Township.

Arrangements are incomplete and are under the direction of Rush Funeral Home Inc., Rogersville. A complete obituary and funeral notice will be published in a later edition.

Local 3 ironworker enjoyed walking trail

Robert Louis Hervol, 60, of Hickory, Mt. Pleasant Township, died Thursday, August 1, 2013, in the Allegheny General Hospital emergency department, Pittsburgh.

He was born October 6, 1952, in Canonsburg, a son of the late Louis and Dorothy Forkey Hervol.

Mr. Hervol enjoyed walking the Montour Trail, gardening, traveling and touring Disney. He was an avid Pittsburgh sports fan.

He worked as a ironworker for Local 3, retiring in 2009.

Surviving are his wife, Tina Hervol of Hickory; son Michael Hervol of Sunrise, Fla.; daughter Nicole (Masayoshi) Nagaya of San Jose, Calif.; a sister, Mary Lou (Thomas) McCullough of Marco Island, Fla.; and many nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., the time of a blessing service, Sunday, August 4, in Coleman-Taylor Funeral Services, 3378 Millers Run Road, Route 50, Cecil, with Father Stan Gregorek, officiating. Interment will be private.

Transfiguration Church member served in WWII

Lawrence J. Pestino, 95, of Valley Inn, Monongahela, died Thursday, August 1, 2013, in Nevaeh Cove Personal Care Home, Charleroi.

He was born March 11, 1918, in Cleveland, Ohio, a son of the late Joseph and Rose Schippacassi Pestino.

He graduated from Ohio University with a degree in industrial relations and cost accounting.

A World War II veteran, he served four years as a staff sergeant in the U.S. Air Force in Northern Africa and India. Upon his return, he settled in Monongahela, the hometown of his loving wife of 59 years, Louise Anton Pestino.

He worked in Donora at American Steel & Wire, the Western Pennsylvania Employment Office in Charleroi and later in his career as the manager of personnel and public relations at Lee Norse/Ingersoll Rand Corp., Charleroi. In retirement, he also served as executive administrator of Carroll Township Authority.

He was a faithful member and past Eucharistic minister at St. Damian of Molokai Parish (Transfiguration Church) in Monongahela and was a member of Carroll Township American Legion Post 949.

He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Surviving are five children, Richard A. Pestino of Sparks, Nev., Joseph F. Pestino of Penfield, N.Y., Daniel J. Pestino and wife Cathy of New Eagle, Patricia A. Mallonee and husband Timothy of Barrackville, W.Va., and Mary L. Augustine of Jefferson Hills; six grandchildren, Christopher J. Pestino, Amanda Pestino-Mavrakis and husband Marcus of Monongahela, Joshua R. Mallonee and wife Lindsey of Catlettsburg, Ky., Kathryn A. Mallonee of Barrackville, Evan L. Augustine and Elise Augustine of Jefferson Hills; a great-granddaughter, Marissa Mavrakis; a sister, Marie Pestino Anderson of Decatur, Ill.; and a nephew, John Anderson of Decatur. He also leaves his devoted cat, Callie.

Deceased are his loving wife of 59 years, Louise Anton Pestino, whom he met at Ohio University; a son, Lawrence A. “Laddie” Pestino, who died April 22, 1954; and a nephew, George Boynton of Connecticut.

Friends will be received from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday in Marshall Marra Funeral Home, 216 Chess Street, Monongahela, 724-258-6767, marshallmarrafuneralhome.com. A prayer service will begin in the funeral home at 9:30 a.m. Monday, August 5, followed at 10 a.m. by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Damien of Molokai Parish, Transfiguration Church. Interment will be in Monongahela Cemetery.

Loved her grandson, pets, flowers and gardening

Mary B. Pomykala, 90, of Washington, died Thursday, August 1, 2013, in Evergreen Personal Care Home, Washington.

She was born August 8, 1922, in Washington, a daughter of the late George and Anna Repka Antol.

Mrs. Pomykala attended Trinity schools.

She was a homemaker.

Mrs. Pomykala loved her grandson, enjoyed flowers, gardening and loved her pets.

She was a member of Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Roman Catholic Church, Meadow Lands, as well as the First Catholic Slovak Ladies’ Association.

On November 21, 1953, in Washington, she married Henry “Herky” Pomykala, who died August 2, 2000.

Surviving are a daughter, Amy Kovats and husband Michael, and a grandson, Michael H. Kovats.

Deceased are a son, Henry “Bud” Pomykala; a daughter, Linda Pomykala; four brothers, John, Steve, Pete and Joe Antol; and four sisters, Anna Mazzi, Margaret Antol, Katherine Mersky and Helen Orlosky.

Friends will be received from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday in Piatt and Barnhill Funeral Home, 420 Locust Avenue, Washington. A funeral liturgy will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday, August 6, in Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Church, Pike Street, Meadow Lands, with the Rev. Carmen D’Amico as celebrant. Interment will follow in Washington Cemetery.
