Retired cook enjoyed baking, playing bingo
Gladys Kathryn Bowers, 94, of Washington, died Sunday, August 11, 2013, in Washington County Health Center, Chartiers Township.
She was born March 23, 1919, in Wind Ridge, a daughter of W.E. and Minnie Harris Kahlbaugh.
Mrs. Bowers was the last of her immediate family.
She was a member of Beulah Baptist Church, Graysville.
Mrs. Bowers enjoyed baking and playing bingo.
Prior to her retirement, she worked as a cook in several hotels and restaurants.
In August 1943, she married William Edward Bowers, who passed away in 1983.
Surviving are her sons, Oren “Bud” Kahlbaugh and wife Linda of Prosperity, John Bowers and wife Terri of Burgettstown, Carl “Dick” Bowers of Prosperity and Ronald “Ronnie” Bowers of Georgia; a daughter, Debra Yancey and husband Mike of Vale, N.C.; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Eleanor Miller; four brothers, Ralph, Delmar, Alfred and Elias Kahlbaugh; and three sisters, Ida Thomas, Hazel Ealy and Martha Ealy.
Friends will be received from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday in Sollon Funeral Home Ltd., 30 East College Street, Canonsburg, J. David Sollon, supervisor, Phillip L. Sollon, director, where a memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, August 15. Friends and family will meet at 1 p.m. Thursday in Mt. View Cemetery, Dallas, W.Va., for interment.
