Coal miner was UMWA member, outdoorsman

Charles E. Hoyle Sr., 63, of Waynesburg, died Wednesday, August 14, 2013, in a traffic accident.

He was born November 28, 1949, in Waynesburg, a son of Nora Balsinger Hoyle of Waynesburg and the late George Edward Hoyle.

Mr. Hoyle was a 1968 graduate of Waynesburg Central High School.

On June 20, 1970, he married Brenda Lemasters, who survives.

Mr. Hoyle worked as a coal miner for Alpha Resources at Kirby since 1977. He also worked at Montour No. 4 Mine from 1973 to 1977. He was a member of United Mine Workers of America Local 2300.

He was a lifelong resident of Waynesburg and was Protestant. An avid outdoorsman, he and enjoyed hunting and fishing with his grandchildren. He was a member of National Rifle Association and received the sharpshooter award.

Surviving, in addition to his wife and mother, are a son, Charles E. Hoyle Jr. (Vicki Varner) of Waynesburg; two daughters, Heidi L. Connor (Dan) of Waynesburg and Heather L. Hoyle (Ken Young) of New Hampshire; eight grandchildren, Ashley Hoyle, Timothy Hoyle, Tiffany Hoyle, Kyle Varner, Charli Hoyle, Hailey Hoyle, T.J. Hoyle and Colton Hoyle Connor; a sister, Cynthia Chadwick of Waynesburg; four brothers, Marshall Hoyle of Waynesburg, Terry Hoyle of Waynesburg, George Hoyle of Maryland and Robert Hoyle of Waynesburg; and mother-in-law Aldene Allman of Waynesburg.

Deceased are an infant brother, Dale Hoyle, and father-in-law Roy Lemasters.

Friends will be received 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday and noon to 2 p.m., the time of service, Sunday, August 18, in Behm Funeral Homes Inc., 182 West High Street, Waynesburg, with the Rev. Greg Stauffer officiating. Interment will follow Mt. Pleasant Cemetery at Gordon Hill. Condolences may be offered at www.behmfh.com.
