Richard Michael Knizner, 77, of Canonsburg, died Friday, August 16, 2013, in Washington Hospital.
He was born May 6, 1936, in Marianna, a son of Michael Matthew and Jennie Malinsky Knizner.
Mr. Knizner was a 1954 graduate of Bethlehem Joint High School. He received his bachelor’s degree in finance from Robert Morris College and was a 1960 graduate of Penn Commercial.
He was a member of Holy Rosary Church in Muse, where he served as a Sunday school teacher.
Mr. Knizner was an officer and director of corporate tax for Dravo Corp. in Pittsburgh.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, serving at Randolf Air Force Base in Texas.
Mr. Knizner was a member of American Legion Post 744 of Marianna.
He was an avid outdoorsman, loved sports and was a Little League baseball coach.
On June 8, 1957, he married his beloved wife of 56 years, Joanne Shimborske.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, are four children, Linda King (Tully) of Stapleton, Ala., Sharon Rice (John Jr.) of Marianna, Deanne Knizner of Wexford and Richard Knizner (Stephanie) of Augusta, Ga.; six grandchildren, Daniel Rusin, Wesley Hurless, Geoffrey Knizner, Kaylee Knizner, Katelyn Hall and R.J. Knizner; two brothers, Thomas “Doc” Knizner (Mae) and Michael Knizner (Virginia), both of Marianna, and Carolyn Noska (Robert) of Cleveland, Ohio; and several nieces and nephews.
