Army vet, 50-year Wayne Twp. VFD member

Joseph I. Wise, 76, of Brave, died Wednesday, August 21, 2013, in his home.

He was born December 1, 1936, in Pine Bank, a son of the late Ira “Buss” Wise and Verda Jane Phillips Wise.

Mr. Wise was a retired foreman from Accurate Brass. He worked for the company for more than 35 years. He was the first man hired when the plant opened.

He was a 50-year member of Wayne Township Volunteer Fire Department.

Mr. Wise was a 1956 graduate of Waynesburg High School. He attended California State Teachers College and served on the Brave School Reunion Committee.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army.

Mr. Wise was a member of Kents Chapel United Methodist Church.

Surviving are his wife of 50 years, Nila Mae Ellks Wise; two daughters and their spouses, Vicki Lou Smith and husband David of Winchester, Va., and Heidi Jo Wise of Brave; a brother and sister-in-law, Albert Jack Wise and wife Barbara of Waynesburg; two sisters and their spouses, Clara Lea Gaston of Waynesburg and Linda Jane Hall and husband Russell of Waynesburg; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Deceased, in addition to his parents, is a sister, Louie Mae Wise.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday in Owen-Neely Funeral Home, 5894 Mason Dixon Highway, Blacksville, W.Va., where services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, August 23, with the Rev. Rose Saunders officiating. Interment will follow in Greene County Memorial Park, Morgan Township.
