PennDOT retiree active in Fairview Methodist Church

Russell W. Grim, 81, of Wind Ridge, died at 7:20 p.m. Tuesday, August 20, 2013, in his home, after battling a cancer-related illness.

He was born June 6, 1932, in Gray Township, Greene County, a son of the late Robert Lincoln and Josie Olive Barnhart Grim. He had resided in Richhill Township most of his life.

Mr. Grim was a member of Fairview United Methodist Church, where he formerly served as vice president of the church board and, at the time of his death, was serving as vice president of the Fairview Cemetery Association.

He was a veteran of the Korean War, having served as a sergeant with the U.S. Army, receiving the Republic of Korea Presidential Citation, National Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Korean Service Medal with one bronze service star and United Nations Service Medal.

Mr. Grim was a life member of the National Rifle Association, a member of Senior Bowling League and a member of Pennsylvania State Retired Employees Association.

He enjoyed motorcycling, camping, shooting clay birds, hunting and bowling.

Mr. Grim and his late father co-owned and operated a sawmill and tree trimming business for several years. He was an employee of the former Husky Garage in Wind Ridge, a former employee of Steel Casting Pipe Cleaners in Massillon, Ohio, and was a truck driver for Carnation Milk. He was last employed for 28 years as an equipment operator for PennDOT, prior to retiring in December of 1991.

On December 22, 1962, he married Martha Lavonna Tharp, who survives.

Also surviving are a son, Roger Lee, husband of Lorianne Grim of Wind Ridge; a daughter, Christina Lynn, wife of Wesley McClimans of Jamestown; five grandchildren, Michele, Zachary and Jeremy Grim and Logan and Kaylee McClimans; a great-grandchild, Faith Moore; two brothers, Jerry Lee Grim of Graysville and Lanny Grim of Taylorstown; and a sister, Carol Stein of Wind Ridge.

Deceased, in addition to his parents, is a brother, Kenneth Grim.

At the request of the deceased, there will be no public visitation. Family and friends are invited to attend a public memorial service to be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, August 24, in Fairview United Methodist Church, Graysville, with Pastor Nelson Boone officiating. Private interment will be held at a later date in Fairview Cemetery.
