Washington County Health Center retiree

Alberta L. Abbadini, 74, of Washington, formerly of Denbo Heights, died Friday, August 23, 2013, in Washington County Health Center, Chartiers Township.

She was born August 16, 1939, in Vestaburg, a daughter of the late Albert and Sarah Perry Abbadini.

Ms. Abbadini was a 1957 graduate of Bethlehem Joint High School and was a 1960 graduate of Washington Hospital School of Nursing.

Her nursing career included employment with Holy Cross Hospital in Michigan, Brownsville General Hospital and Golden Age Nursing Home in Brownsville. At the time of her retirement, she was serving as director of nursing at the Washington County Health Center, where she had more than 20 years of service.

She enjoyed reading, listening to audio books, cooking and gardening. She was especially fond of her faithful canine companion, Sadie.

Surviving are daughter Emily Anne Plutch (Robert L.) of Spring Hill, Fla.; two sisters, Emily Darney of Vestaburg and Donna White of Clarksville; brother Robert E. Abbadini (Kathy) of Centerville; stepgrandson Bobby Plutch II; three nephews, William Darney, Jason Darney and Robbie Abbadini; and niece Kristin White Sisler.

Friends will be received from 2 to 8 p.m. Tuesday in Greenlee Funeral Home, 42 Bank Street at Crawford Road, Fredericktown, where services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, August 28, with the Rev. Edwin S. Bawell, 88, of Washington, died Sunday, August 25, 2013, in Donnell House, Washington.

He was born November 16, 1924, in Meadow Lands, the youngest son of Nicholas and Caroline Bawel.

On December 2, 1948, he married Naomi “Ruth” Jeffers and early in their marriage, they lived in California and Europe while he worked for various large corporations. Upon moving back to this area, they owned and operated a farm in Lone Pine and worked for McGraw Edison in Canonsburg. In their later years, he and his wife enjoyed traveling the country in their RV. He was very proud of the fact that they camped their way to Alaska and back. Mrs. Bawell died January 20, 2006.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

Mr. Bawell was a good man, honest and hard working who, for the past seven and a half years, had made his home with his son, Jeffrey, and daughter-in-law Sabrina in Washington, where he enjoyed the company of the family poodles, Beau, Nina and Lacy. He was often seen outside on the deck enjoying the sunshine with the dogs.

Surviving are his sister, Emily Narsavage of Washington; children, a son, Jeffrey (Sabrina) Bawell of Washington and daughters Janet (Ted Potts) Shapter, MD, of Omaha, Ark., and Jill (Cliff) McClintock of Springfield, Mo.; grandchildren Nicholas (Marge) Shapter, Danja (Mike) Gamble, Katherine Knick and Jeffrey (Haley) Knick; five great-grandchildren; and four stepgreat-grandchildren.

Deceased, in addition to his wife, are brother Walter Bawell and sister Sophia Kindelberger.

Friends will be received from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday in Piatt & Barnhill Funeral Home, 420 Locust Avenue, Washington, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, August 28, with the Rev. C. J. Houry officiating. Interment will follow in Washington Cemetery. Canonsburg Hospital retiree, Ladies With Heart president

Paulette E. Dziak, 69, of Washington, died Sunday, August 25, 2013, in Canonsburg Hospital.

She was born September 24, 1943, in Canonsburg, a daughter of Harold E. and Esther Liggitt Taylor.

Mrs. Dziak worked as a nurse’s aide at Canonsburg Hospital for more than 20 years, retiring in 2009.

She was a 1961 graduate of Chartiers-Houston High School and was a member of Gospel Way Church in Canonsburg.

Mrs. Dziak was a member and president of Ladies With Heart, an organization that, through word of mouth, would help area families in need. She also enjoyed playing cards.

On April 12, 1963, she married John J. Dziak, her loving husband of 50 years.

Also surviving are two sons, John J. Dziak Jr. and wife Tula and Jeffrey Dziak, both of Canonsburg; two granddaughters, Malina and Alaina Dziak; brother Harold E. “Buzz” Taylor Jr. and wife Ann; sister-in-law Anastasia Eimer of Canonsburg; and several nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday in McIlvaine-Speakman Funeral Home Ltd., Robert K. Member of First Baptist Church of Washington

Bette Iams Hoge of Washington died Sunday, August 25, 2013, in Donnell House, Washington.

She was born February 14, 1924, in Williamsport, a daughter of the late John and Lila Heilhecker Briner.

On September 9, 1944, she married Ned Iams, who is deceased. She married LaVerne Hoge July 18, 1980.

Mrs. Hoge was a member of First Baptist Church of Washington for 64 years. She was a former member of the board of trustees, a substitute church secretary, a Sunday school teacher, a member of the Fidelity Class and a strong benefactor to the church for her entire adult life.

She worked in Pittsburgh for Coppers Co. before becoming a secretary for Taggart Valley Glass Co. and then Suwak Trucking Co.

Mrs. Hoge was a member of Eastern Star. She enjoyed investing, following the stock market and was an avid card player. She was a member of a bowling team and loved sports, following local teams. She liked to travel, having been to Australia, Europe and all the states, except Idaho.

Surviving, in addition to her husband, are son-in-law Ed Moyer (Rose) of Washington; grandson Craig Moyer (Michelle) of Laurel, Del.; great-grandchildren Nathan and Elizabeth Moyer; stepchildren Carl Hoge (Kathy) of Charleston, S.C., Sandy Liston (Bill) of Philadelphia, N.Y., and Jack Hoge (Mary) of Washington; stepgrandchildren Amy Wilson (Douglas) of Waynesburg, Mark Hoge (Phyllis) of Bridgeville, Matthew Hoge of Charleston, Andrew Liston (Jodi) of Newburgh, N.Y., Troy Liston of Maynard, Mass., Molly Wyatt (Grant) of Vietnam, John Liston of Berkeley, Calif., and Rachel, Ryan and Jared Hoge of Washington; and stepgreat-grandchildren Bradley, Chelsey and Christian Wilson, Joshua and Olivia Bradshaw, Paris Liston, Logan and Grayson Wyatt, Devin, Gage and Ayden Phillips, Raynin Black and Brandon Hoge.

Deceased are her only sibling, Jack Briner, and her only child, Sandra Iams Moyer.

A memorial service and celebration of her life will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, August 28, in First Baptist Church of Washington on Wheeling Street. Inurnment will be in Forest Lawn Gardens, McMurray, at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First Baptist Church, 101 S. Former Pa. resident, veteran

Robert Victor “Bob” Stabile, 83, of Greenwood, S.C., husband of June Elizabeth Myers Stabile, died Sunday, August 25, 2013, in Richard M. Campbell Veterans Nursing Home, Anderson, S.C.

He was born January 13, 1930, in Pittsburgh, a son of the late Nicholas J. and Helen Bava Stabile.

He was a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh and a U.S. Air Force veteran. Mr. Stabile was a practicing CPA in Pennsylvania until his retirement in 1992. He was an avid golfer and was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, Greenwood.

Surviving, in addition to his wife of 42 years, are three sons, David, Jeff and Todd; daughter Barbara; nine grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; and a number of cousins, nieces and nephews.

Deceased are brother Nicholas J. Stabile Jr. and sister Helen Hasler.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, August 27, in Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, Greenwood, with the Rev. Father James Crowley officiating. The family will receive friends in the Parish Life Center of the church immediately following the Mass. Burial will be in Oakbrook Memorial Park.

Pallbearers will be his sons along with his brother-in-law, Larry and grandsons, Jason and Christopher.
