Former Somerset Township supervisor

John “Jack” Moore, 81, of Eighty Four, Somerset Township, died Friday, August 30, 2013, in his home.

He was born September 28, 1931, in Washington County, a son of the late Fred and Edna Miller Moore.

On April 13, 1952, he married Barbara Grimm, who survives.

Mr. Moore was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War. He served from 1952 to 1954 as a mechanic.

For 25 years, he served as a Somerset Township supervisor and was previously employed by Bethlehem Mines Corp., working for more than 13 years at Mine 58 in Marianna.

He was an avid sports fan and enjoyed hunting and collecting glassware.

Mr. Moore was a lifelong member of Emmanuel United Presbyterian Church, National Duncan Miller Society and Sunset Lodge 623 Free and Accepted Masons.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, are three grandchildren, Thaddeus Magyar of Washington and Nicole Magyar and Chris Magyar, both of Eighty Four; two great-grandchildren, Alice and Avery Magyar; three sisters, Mary Zavislak, Mildred Wright and Margaret Goughenour, all of Eighty Four; a brother, Charles L. Moore of Melbourne, Fla.; two half sisters, Edna Mae Lauderbaugh Gibson of Sharon and Jeanie Lauderbaugh Woods of Eighty Four; and several nieces and nephews.

Deceased are a daughter, Alice Magyar, who died December 25, 2002; a son-in-law, Jack Magyar, who died June 22, 2001; and two brothers, Clarence “Hump” and Fred B. Moore.

Friends will be received from 1 to 8 p.m. Tuesday in Greenlee Funeral Home, 619 Main Street, Bentleyville, where services will be held at a time to be announced Wednesday, September 4. Interment will follow in Washington Cemetery.
