Piano playing was her true joy

Patricia A. Chytil, 78, of Mather, formerly of Canonsburg, died Sunday, December 1, 2013, in Evergreen Assisted Living Center, Washington.

She was born March 17, 1935, in Canonsburg, a daughter of Charles and Edna Pugh Taylor.

Mrs. Chytil was a 1953 graduate of Canonsburg High School.

She had worked as a secretary at the former Kmet Tool Co. in Canonsburg.

Mrs. Chytil was a member of South Canonsburg Church.

Piano playing was one of her true joys. She played for her church, as well as for the Four Coins singing group. She also enjoyed crocheting.

On October 6, 1973, she married Frank Chytil, who died September 11, 2009.

Surviving are a son, Clifford “Ed” Marshall (Sherry) of Washington; a grandson, Brad Marshall; and several nieces and nephews.

Deceased are three brothers, Herbert, Harold and Eugene Taylor and a sister Francis Horne.

Red Hat Society member loved photography

Beverly H. Emory, 62, of Baden, formerly of Monessen, went to be with her Lord Saturday, November 30, 2013, in Presbyterian SeniorCare, Washington.

She was born March 11, 1951, in North Charleroi, a daughter of the Charlers W. Holet, who survives and resides in Monessen, and the late Ida May Peters Holet.

Mrs. Emory was a member of the Red Hat Society. She had been the president of the resident’s council of the Presbyterian SeniorCare for several years.

She loved cooking, photography, painting, the symphony and dancing.

Surviving, in addition to her father, are a daughter, Patti Emory of Greenbelt, Md.; two sons, William Emory and Stephen Emory, both of Washington; a sister, Arlene Krajnik of Belle Vernon; a brother and sister-in-law, Charles W. Jr. and Chris Holet of Gibsonia; two nieces, Amy Holet of Gibsonia and Kristen Michaels; her husband, Jude of Bethel Park; and a nephew, Charles Holet III and his wife Betsy of Upper St. Clair.

Welder was peacetime vet of U.S. Air Force

Gary A. Harshall, 61, of Graysville, died unexpectedly at 7:10 a.m. Sunday, December 1, 2013, in Golden Living Center, Waynesburg, of a cancer-related illness.

He was born May 24, 1952, in Pittsburgh, a son of the late Albert and Betty Louise Vandevort Harshall.

Mr. Harshall had resided in Harmony and New Jersey prior to moving to Greene County (Center Township) in 1996.

He was a 1970 graduate of Lincoln High School in Ellwood City and had attended a community college for two years.

Mr. Harshall was a peacetime veteran of the U.S. Air Force, where he served as an airman first class in aircraft maintenance.

Mr. Harshall was last employed as a welder with Jersey Tank Fabricators in Cream Ridge, N.J., for over 20 years.

On February 24, 1990, he married Gail Patricia Burns, who survives.

Also surviving are a son, Travis Harshall, at home; a daughter, Lisa Marie, wife of Michael Kennedy of New Castle; three grandchildren, Kayla and Kirsten Kennedy and Trevor Allen Harrington; three brothers, Todd Harshall of Bainesville, Ohio, Tawn, husband of Sheryl Harshall of Butler and Lee, husband of Susan Harshall of Harmony; and several nieces and nephews.

Elburn “Hoobie” Henderson, 89, of Claysville, died unexpectedly Saturday, November 30, 2013.

U.S. Army veteran was born in Greene County

Walter L. Lancuski, 82, of Burton, Mich., died Wednesday, November 27, 2013, in Regency at Grand Blanc, Mich.

Mr. Lancuski was born June 12, 1931, in Greene County, the son of Adam and Veronica Lancuski.

He served in the U.S. Army in Korea.

On December 12, 1954, he married Janet Ashby in Flint, Mich.

He was a member of United Auto Workers Local 326 and American Legion Red Arrow Post.

Mr. Lancuski worked at General Motors Ternstedt Plant for more than 26 years.

Surviving are his wife, Janet; a son, Barry and wife Anna; a granddaughter, Trisha (Nathan) Hardy; two great-granddaughters, Madelyn and Mallory; a great-grandson, Marcus; and a sister, Frances Bane.

He was preceded in death by his brother, William.

Cremation has taken place and a military service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, December 5, in Great Lakes National Cemetery, 4200 Belford Rd., Holly, MI.

U.S. Army WWII veteran dearly loved his family

Mike Marchines, 91, of Daisytown, died Saturday, November 30, 2013, with his family at his side.

He was born July 11, 1922, in Vestaburg, a son of the late George and Mary Stulansek Marchines.

Mr. Marchines was a 1940 graduate of Centerville High School.

He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. As a sergeant, he was awarded the Combat Infantryman Badge, Asiatic-Pacific Theatre Medal with two Campaign Stars, Philippine Liberation Medal, Good Conduct Medal, a Purple Heart and a Bronze Star.

Mr. Marchines was employed by J&L Steel as a coal sampler for Vesta Mine processing plant in Labelle, where he retired in 1984 after 42 years of service.

He was a lifelong member of St. Nicholas Byzantine Catholic Church in Brownsville.

Mr. Marchines was a life-member of Fredericktown American Legion Post 391 and United Mine Workers Association Local 762.

On August 9, 1947, he married Helen Katruska Marchines, who preceded him in death June 22, 2002.

He loved his family dearly and enjoyed spending his time with them.

Surviving are a son, George Marchines (Cookie) of Washington; a granddaughter, Nicole Marchines; and a great-granddaughter, Baylee Marchines, both of Washington; and several nieces and nephews.

He was the last of his immediate family.

Deceased, in addition to his wife and parents, are a grandson, Michael Marchines; three brothers, George Marchines Jr, Charles Marchines and John Marchines; and six sisters, Mary Karpoff, Irene Bozynski, Susan Shimborsky, Helen Garstecki, Georgia Zembroski and Anna Brozak.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday in John B. Greenlee Funeral Home, 2830 Main Street, Beallsville, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, December 4, with the Rev. Jerome Botsko as celebrant. Interment will follow in Greene County Memorial Park, Morgan Township.

Kimberly A. Seaman, 55, of Houston, died Sunday, December 1, 2013, in Donnell House, Washington.

She was born April 25, 1958, in Washington, a daughter of Thomas and Betty McCartney Whitfield Jr. of Houston.

Mrs. Seaman was a 1976 graduate of Chartiers-Houston High School and graduated from Penn Commercial with an associate degree in business.

She had worked for The Meadows Racetrack & Casino, most recently as the Call-A-Bet supervisor, and also held positions of executive secretary and human resources supervisor.

Mrs. Seaman enjoyed taking care of her grandchildren, camping and spending time at the beach.

Surviving, in addition to her parents, are two sons, Douglas Seaman (Jessica) of Houston and Drew Seaman (Alissa) of Canonsburg; six grandchildren, Xavier, Lillian, Dougie and Brayden Seaman and David and Keira Corbet; a sister, Cindy Whitfield; three brothers, Tom Whitfield (April), Gary Whitfield (Brenda) and Rodney Whitfield (Anne), all of Houston; and several nieces, nephews, uncles, aunts and cousins.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., the time of service, Tuesday, December 3, in McIlvaine-Speakman Funeral Home Ltd., Robert K. McIlvaine, owner/supervisor, 27 Cherry Avenue, Houston, PA 15342. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made in care of the funeral home. Kind, generous person

Stella M. Solak, 90, of Richeyville, died Saturday, November 30, 2013, surrounded by her loving family.

She was born January 14, 1923, in Mammoth, a daughter of the late Alexander and Sophia Dirda Glemza.

Mrs. Solak was a seamstress for over 30 years. She retired as a supervisor for Brownsville Sportswear, where she retired in 1985.

She was a member of the historic Church of St. Peters, Brownsville.

Mrs. Solak enjoyed dogs, specifically her chocolate Poodle, Buddy. She enjoyed bowling, polka dancing, cooking, baking and sitting on her front porch in the summer among her flowers. A very kind and generous person, she always put her family first and above herself. She enjoyed faithfully praying the Rosary.

She married John “Stoney” Solak, who preceded her in death February 2, 1979.

Surviving are a daughter, Lorraine Kelley (Michael E.) of Centerville; a granddaughter, Michelle Celaschi (Del) of Deemston; three grandson, Michael J. “Buddy” (Kelley) of Centerville, Michael Anthony Celaschi (Lauren) and Del Michael Celaschi; a sister, Sophie Oswald of California; and two brothers, Frank Glenzu of Los Angeles, Calif., and Nick Glemza of Cox’s Creek, Ky.

Deceased, in addition to her husband and parents, are four brothers, Mike, Anthony, George and Pete Glemza.

Friends will be received from 9 to 10:15 a.m. Tuesday, December 3, in John B. Greenlee Funeral Home, 2830 Main Street, Beallsville, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. in the historic Church of St. Peters, Brownsville with the Rev. Joseph Armameto as celebrant.
