Gerard Arnoth Weiss

Known for his curiosity, generosity, sense of humor
Gerard “Gerry” Arnoth Weiss, 100, of Washington, died peacefully December 2, 2013, in Southmont of Presbyterian SeniorCare, Washington.
Born February 3, 1913, in Lansdale, he grew up in Irvington and North Tarrytown, N.Y., and lived in Tarrytown, Rome and White Plains, N.Y., and Berlin, Germany. In 2004, he moved with his wife, Emily, to Washington to be near his son and daughter-in-law, Rod and Nancy Weiss.
Married to Emily Hubbel of Tarrytown, Mr. Weiss was a devoted husband and loving father of five children, 11 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Mr. and Mrs. Weiss celebrated their “month-aversary” every month throughout their 68-year marriage.
A graduate of Columbia University and Law School, Mr. Weiss was admitted to the New York State bar at the age of 21. He practiced law for nearly 70 years, including his 1945 Berlin assignment, where he investigated the war crimes of the huge chemical corporation, IG Farben.
He was known for his curiosity, generosity and sense of humor.
Mr. Weiss was an active church member and a member of Washington Fortnightly Club, where he presented his last talk at the age of 96.
He was an avid golfer, tennis player and pingpong player.
Surviving are children John (Elaine) Weiss, Rod (Nancy) Weiss, Star (Russ) Fuoco, Emily (William) McClung and Bonnie Weiss; niece Phyllis Allen; nephew Robert Hubbel; grandchildren Amity Weiss, Polly (Marcia Ramoutar) Weiss, Holly (Dean) Broadland, Kristi Fuoco, Greg and Melissa McClung, Mark, James, Richard (Amanda), Ehrich and Arthur Gauvin; and great-grandchildren Sophia and Eleanor Broadland and Leo Gauvin.
In February 2013, the family gathered joyfully to celebrate Mr. Weiss’ 100th birthday.
A memorial service will be held in Westchester County, New York, at a later date.
