WWII Army veteran

Cecil E. Moninger, 94, of Greensburg, formerly of Holiday Park, died peacefully Tuesday, December 3, 2013, in Excela Westmoreland Hospital, Greensburg.

He was born May 12, 1919, in Aleppo Township, Greene County, a son of John W. and Audrey Spragg Moninger.

Mr. Moninger retired as a district foreman from Consolidated Natural Gas Co. with 40 years of service.

He was a World War II U.S. Army veteran.

Mr. Moninger was a longtime member of Christ Lutheran Church in Holiday Park.

He was an avid gardener and hunter. He very much enjoyed woodworking and spent many hours in his woodshop creating beautiful and unique treasures, which he shared with others.

Deceased, in addition to his parents, are his beloved wife of 42 years, Nancy M. Kirkpatrick Moninger and beloved daughter Dianna Lynne Kane.

Mr. Moninger will be greatly missed by his loving family.

Surviving are a son, Jason E. (Sue Kennedy) Moninger of Greensburg; a sister, Betty (Richard) Haley of Manor; an aunt, Margaret Moninger of Aleppo Township; two grandchildren, Remington and Hope; and several nieces and nephews.

Family and friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday and 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday in Vaia Funeral Home Inc., 463 Athena Drive, Delmont, 724-468-1177, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, December 7, with Pastor Steven J. Myers of Christ Lutheran Church officiating. Interment will follow in Eastview Union Cemetery, Delmont.
