Eugene A. Mogentale
Veteran was devoted family man
Eugene A. Mogentale, 85, of McMurray, died Thursday, December 5, 2013, in St. Clair Hospital, Mt. Lebanon.
He was born June 7, 1928, a son of Baptist and Louise Bier Mogentale.
Mr. Mogentale was a 1946 graduate of Chartiers High School and a 1955 graduate of University of Pittsburgh with a degree in metallurgical engineering.
He was a veteran, having served with the U.S. Army from 1951 to 1953.
Mr. Mogentale spent his life working in the steel industry. He first worked for Universal Cyclops in Bridgeville, then Ohio Ferro Alloys in Canton, Ohio, for 14 years, and retired as a technical sales representative for AIMCOR, Pittsburgh, where he had worked for 12 years.
He was a member of Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Church and the Bears Club, both of Meadow Lands, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 191 of Canonsburg.
Mr. Mogentale was a devoted family man. He also was an avid golfer and enjoyed Pittsburgh sports teams.
Surviving are three children, David Mogentale (Carol Foster) of New York, N.Y., Eric Mogentale (Cindy) of Chicago, Ill. and Lettiann Southerland (Jack) of Overland Park, Kan.; four grandchildren, Kaitlin, Natalie and Michael Mogentale and Nicholas Betts; a sister, Letitia Mogentale of Meadow Lands; a brother, Joseph Mogentale of Detroit, Mich.; former wife and mother of his children, Dolores Swiger of Washington; a cousin, Jeanne Bier of Meadow Lands; and several nieces and nephews.
Deceased are two brothers, William and Albert Mogentale; a sister, Mary Mogentale, who died in infancy; and a dear aunt, Mary Bier.
Friends will be received from noon to 2 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday in McIlvaine-Speakman Funeral Home Ltd., Robert K. McIlvaine, owner/supervisor, 27 Cherry Avenue, Houston, PA 15342. A mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12:30 p.m. Monday, December 9, in Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Church, Meadow Lands. Interment will follow.
