Beloved wife, loving mother
Genevieve Marie Clemmens, 89, of Peters Township, peacefully passed away Saturday, December 7, 2013, surrounded by her family.
She was the beloved wife of the late Edward J.; loving mother of Tom, Dan, Jack (Kathy), Jim (Karen) and Terry; caring grandmother of Andrea, Meghan, Lindsay, Shannan, Matthew, Joe, Michael, Sara, Christine, Carolyn, Steve and Meredith; great-grandmother of eight; and sister of Frank and Charlie Lahoski and Helen Dowds.
Mrs. Clemmens was an original member of St. Benedict the Abbot Church and served more than 22 years as a CCD teacher.
She was a graduate of Mercy School of Nursing as a registered nurse.
Overall, she was very devoted to her family.
Friends are welcome from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday in Beinhauer Funeral Home, 2828 Washington Road, McMurray, 724-941-3211. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday, December 11, in St. Benedict the Abbot Church, McMurray. Entombment will be held in Queen of Heaven Cemetery, Peters Township.

Army vet, Ferro retiree enjoyed telling jokes
Hugh “Bo” Danley Jr., 81, of Washington, died at 11:40 a.m. Saturday, December 7, 2013, in his home, surrounded by his loving family, of complications associated with Alzheimer’s disease. For the past three years, he was cared for by his wife and home aide Deanie Patterson of Washington and Amedisys Hospice.
He was born March 7, 1932, in South Franklin Township, Washington County, a son of the late Hugh Alton and Gertrude Hestle Ealy Danley. He had resided in the Washington County area all his life.
Mr. Danley was a member and former treasurer of Union Valley United Methodist Church.
He was a 1950 graduate of Trinity High School, where he was a member of the baseball team, and attended the former Marshall College. He pitched a no-hitter while playing baseball in the Dunn Station League. He enjoyed watching all sports.
Mr. Danley was a veteran of the Korean War, serving as a sergeant with the U.S. Army National Guard in Company H, 110th infantry, 28th division in Ulam, Germany.
He was a member of American Legion Post 175 in Washington.
Mr. Danley passionately and faithfully mowed his lawn on his favored Gravely tractor and was even presented a “most beautiful lawn” award by Martha Washington Garden Club. He also enjoyed telling jokes, was proud of his immaculately kept automobiles, enjoyed riding his motorcycle, taking bus tours, walking and meeting friends for breakfast.
He was last employed as a lab technician and manager at the former Drakenfeld/Ferro plant in Washington for 39 years, prior to retiring in 1994.
On June 19, 1954, he married Rheita Cleo Beabout, who survives.
Also surviving are a daughter, Susan, wife of David Baker of Marriottsville, Md.; two grandchildren, Kyle and Keaton Baker; and a sister, Darlene, wife of Paul Clark of Washington.
Deceased, in addition to his parents, are a brother, Gerald Danley, who died in infancy, and a sister, Eileen Kennedy.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday in Bethel Presbyterian Church, Route 18 South, Prosperity, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, December 11, with the Rev. David Janz officiating. Interment will follow in Prosperity Cemetery. Graveside military rites will be accorded by representatives of the U.S. Army.

Member of Nazareth Church enjoyed cooking
Johnnie Mae Dates, 97, of Washington, passed away Wednesday, December 4, 2013, in Humbert Lane Nursing and Rehabilitation Centre, South Strabane Township.
She was born May 2, 1916, in Johns, Ala., a daughter of the late Charles McKenzie and Jimmie McKenzie.
Mrs. Dates grew up in Bessemer, Ala., where she was married to the late Freeman Collins. She moved to Washington and was employed at Washington Hospital, where she met and later married James Winegarner. She later married John Dates. Her husbands are deceased.
She was a member of Nazareth Baptist Church in Washington, where she served on the usher board.
Mrs. Dates enjoyed cooking, fishing and crocheting. After her retirement from the hospital, she worked with the Headstart program as the cook, until her retirement.
Deceased, in addition to her parents and husbands, are brother Horace McKenzie; sisters Jessie Smith and Mattie Holland; and daughter Norma Jean Winegarner.
Surviving are sons Charles Collins (Karen) of Alaska and Alan Dates (Shar), Albert Dates (Velma) and John Dates, all of Washington; grandchildren Anelle Rose, Aaron Dates, Amy Dates, Justin Dates and Keilan Dates; great-grandchildren Jamar, Jarell and Alyvia; goddaughter Clara Candice Fisher; and several other relatives and friends.
Friends will be received from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday in Nazareth Baptist Church, 123 North Lincoln Avenue, Washington, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, December 12. Nathan J. Hassett, 37, of Jefferson, died Saturday, December 7, 2013.

Nellie Kayatin, 91, of Coal Center, died peacefully Friday, December 6, 2013.
She was born Friday, April 14, 1922, in Rosmar, W.Va., a daughter of the late Steve and Rose Knatko Bobin.
Mrs. Kayatin was a member of Daisytown Presbyterian Church, where she taught Sunday school and conducted Bible study.
Deceased, in addition to her parents, are her husband, Steve “Steamer” Kayatin, who died December 14, 2012; four sisters, Ann Kuretich, Estelle Robillotto, Helen Cushma and Rose Badalamenti; and two brothers, Michael and Andrew Bobin.
Left to cherish her memory are two children and their spouses, Brenda and Richard Hopkins of Clover Hill and Steven and Frances Kayatin of Canonsburg; a brother, Steve Bobin Jr. and wife Evelyn; three grandchildren and two stepgrandchildren, Jessica Hopkins-Estis and husband Dennis, Christopher Kayatin and wife Michelle, Dr. Matthew Kayatin, Teresa McAnally and husband Michael and Mandy Bennett and husband Brian; two great-grandchildren, Lilah Estis and Nolan McAnally; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received until 11 a.m., the time of service, Monday, December 9, in Mariscotti Funeral Home Inc., Anthony N. Mariscotti, supervisor, 323 Fourth Street, California, with Pastor Doug Quail officiating. Interment will follow in Phillipsburg Cemetery, California.

He was a son of the late Annie Ingram Phillips.
Among his survivors are his wife, Aylea Dorma Lilley Phillips; a son, Frank Phillips Jr. of Claysville; and a granddaughter-in-law, Danielle Cessna.
Army veteran
Jack C. Rogers, 80, of Cleveland, Ohio, died Saturday, December 7, 2013, in his home.
He was born October 19, 1933, in Washington, a son of the late William and Harriet Cole Rogers.
On November 19, 1958, he married Martha Cumberledge, who survives.
Mr. Rogers worked as a mechanic for the city of Euclid, Ohio, for 27 years. He also worked as a school guard for Longfellow School in Cleveland for 10 years.
He was a veteran of the Korean War, serving four years in the U.S. Army.
Mr. Rogers resided in Ohio since 1966.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, are a son, Vernon Rogers (Ann Keener) of Bradenton, Fla.; three daughters, Tammie Monselle of Cleveland, Lisa Jaggie (John May) of Blacksville, W.Va., and Jill Walls (Bob Jasinski) of Cleveland; six grandchildren, Robert, Frankie, Billy Jack, Philip, Jessica and Dylan; three great-grandchildren, Caleb, Peyton and Billy; two sisters, Sara Cumberledge of Spraggs and Shirley Rogers of New Hampshire; and several nieces and nephews.
Deceased are a daughter, Veronica Rogers; four brothers; and two sisters.

Deborah Jean Barkhurst Shedlock, 54, of Burgettstown, Hanover Township, passed away Saturday, December 7, 2013, in Weirton (W.Va.) Medical Center, after a brief illness.
She was born November 21, 1959, a daughter of the late Donald and Shirley Smith Barkhurst.
A graduate of Union High School in Burgettstown, she had an 18-year career as a manager for Walmart working within several stores.
Mrs. Shedlock enjoyed caring for and riding her horses and crafting, especially stamping and scrapbooking. Most important to her was spending time with her family.
On November 23, 1983, she married George S. Shedlock, who survives.
Surviving, in addition to her husband, are her three children, Damian Richard Williamson and wife Leah Marie of Ohio, Dawn Louise Williamson and husband Matthew James of Maryland and George Paul Shedlock and fiancé Kiernan Montrey of Ohio; six grandchildren, Connor Reid, Parker James and Sylvia Darlene Williamson, Benjamin Arthur and Elijah Thomas Williamson and Cory Montrey; a brother, Donald Paul Barkhurst and wife Grace of Hanover Township; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday in Lee and Martin Funeral Home, 73 Highland Avenue, Burgettstown, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, December 12, with the Rev. Joyce Morra officiating. Interment will follow in Grandview Cemetery, Florence.

Carl Douglas Smouse, 69, of Waynesburg, died at 4:15 p.m. Sunday, December 8, 2013, in his home.

Truck driver served in Desert Shield, Desert Storm
Robert F. Young, 56, of Canonsburg, died Sunday, December 8, 2013, in the home of his sister, Libby.
He was born July 13, 1957, in Columbus, Ohio, a son of the late Charles R. and Elizabeth Jean Bennett Young.
Mr. Young was a 1976 graduate of Chartiers-Houston High School.
He was a member of First United Presbyterian Church in Houston.
Mr. Young was a U.S. Army veteran, serving during Desert Shield and Desert Storm.
He enjoyed fishing and driving.
During his term in the Army, he was a truck driver and was employed as a truck driver for Valley Bulk.
Surviving are a son, Robert F. Young Jr. of Oakdale; a daughter, Nicole Ann Doss of Washington; four grandchildren, Jessie Robert Young, Wyatt Anthony Young, Ryker Blaze Young and Myla Coral Young; a sister, Elizabeth Anne “Libby” Young, with whom he resided; two brothers, Charles R. Young (Audra) of Washington and Leon A. Young (Linda) of Washington; a nephew; two nieces; and several grandnephews and grandnieces.
