Milton Buchanan Loffert, 80, of Midway, passed away peacefully Friday morning, December 13, 2013, in his home.

Arrangements are under the direction of Lee & Martin Funeral Home, Burgettstown. A complete obituary will follow in a later edition.

Avid fan of race cars and motorcycles

Ray Maioli, 71, of Bridgeville, died unexpectedly Thursday, December 12, 2013.

He was the beloved husband of Janet Maioli for 39 years; son of the late Raymond and Clara Maioli; cherished father of Charmaine (Christopher) Houghton, Dawn Maioli and Ray (Lori) Maioli Jr. and stepfather of Suzanne Lewis, Suzette (Richard) DeFaveri, Susan (Donald) Hurney and Janet Gruda; loving brother of the late Bob Maioli, Dorothy (Albert) Stenzel, Ruth (Dominick) Massella, Tom (Susie) Maioli and the late Arthur Maioli; proud grandfather of Christopher, Matthew, Spencer, Landon and Logan Houghton, Amanda Maioli, Heather DeFaveri, Chance Hartman and Mario and Gregory Didiano; and great-grandfather of five. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews.

Mr. Maioli was an avid fan of race cars and motorcycles. He was a collector of many things, hats being one of his favorites. In his earlier years, he enjoyed fishing and hunting.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday in Warchol Funeral Home Inc., 3060 Washington Pike, Bridgeville, 412-221-3333, where a service will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, December 17.

Canon-McMillan High School graduate

Thaddeus J. “Tad” Paterra, 33, of Canonsburg, passed away unexpectedly Monday, December 9, 2013, in San Diego, Calif.

He was born June 20, 1980, in Canonsburg, a son of Thaddeus P. “Tad” and April L. Maffio Paterra of Canonsburg.

Mr. Paterra lived most of his life in Canonsburg, where he was a member of St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church.

He was a 1998 graduate of Canon-McMillan High School. He played baseball, enjoyed music and fantasy football. Mr. Paterra attended Washington & Jefferson College and earned a business degree from California University of Pennsylvania.

He was in sales and served with the U.S. Army.

Surviving, in addition to his parents, are many aunts, uncles and cousins.

Deceased are his maternal grandparents, Joseph and Dorothy Dager Maffio, and his paternal grandparents, Emidio and Rosanna Melucci Paterra.

Friends and family are welcome from 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday in Salandra Funeral Service Inc., Joseph P. Salandra, owner/supervisor, 304 West Pike Street, Canonsburg, 724-745-8120, where departing prayers will be recited at 9:30 a.m. Monday, December 16, followed at 10 a.m. by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church, Canonsburg. Interment with military honors will be accorded by American Legion Post 902 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 191 honor guard in Queen of Heaven Cemetery, Peters Township.

1970 – 2013

Robert Dale Raymond “Smurf” Smith, 43, of Slovan, passed away Thursday, December 12, 2013, in his home.

He was born July 14, 1970, a son of the late Donna P. Smith.

Mr. Smith worked for Blue’s Lawn and Landscaping in Burgettstown before owning his own lawn and landscaping business.

He enjoyed watching professional wrestling and the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Surviving are two uncles, William Smith and wife Joanne of Warren, Ohio, and Edward Smith and wife Shirley of Eldersville; two aunts, Janet Vega of Langeloth and Jane Ralston and husband Elwood of Burgettstown; and several cousins and friends.

Friends will be received from noon to 4 p.m., the time of service, Sunday, December 15, in Lee & Martin Funeral Home, 73 Highland Avenue, Burgettstown, with the Rev. Deborah Ford officiating.
