S. Evelyn Athey, 85, of Hickory, died Monday, December 16, 2013, in Canonsburg Hospital.

Arrangements are incomplete and have been entrusted to McIlvaine-Speakman Funeral Home Ltd., Houston. A complete obituary will be published in a later edition.

Member of Immaculate Conception Church

Josephine Balent, 88, of Washington, died at 9:50 a.m. Sunday, December 15, 2013, in Washington Hospital.

She was born March 27, 1925, in Washington, a daughter of the late Alexander and Stella Czemerowska Kruczek.

Mrs. Balent was a member of Immaculate Conception Church.

She was employed by Washington Meat Market for 35 years and also worked at Rungo’s Market for many years.

Mrs. Balent attended Trinity High School.

She enjoyed playing games with family and friends and also spending time with her dog, Maggie.

On November 18, 1942, she married Joseph A. Balent, who died January 7, 1983.

Surviving are two daughters, Kathy (Kenny) Schriskey of Washington and Jean Balent of Washington; a sister, Laura Sapp of Florida; and several nieces and nephews.

Deceased are two brothers, Edward Kruczek and a brother who died in infancy and three sisters, Joanne Mikuta, Victoria Kruczek, who died at a young age, and Helen DeStefano.

Mrs. Balent had a loving dog, Molly, who had passed away.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday in Warco-Falvo Funeral Home Inc. Wilson at East Katherine avenues, Washington, S. Timothy Warco, supervisor/director, Susan Falvo Warco, director, S. Timothy Warco II, director, where a prayer service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, December 19, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. in Immaculate Conception Church, Washington. Burial will follow in Queen of Heaven Cemetery, Peters Township.

1930 – 2013

Chrystal Hope Carroll, 83, passed away Friday, December 13, 2013, in Gillette Nursing Home, Warren, Ohio.

She was born May 31, 1930, in Washington, a daughter of the late Squire and Lennie Mosier Kiskadden.

On April 10, 1946, she married husband, Earl R. Carroll, who survives.

Mrs. Carroll retired from Warren City Schools lunch program after working for more than 30 years as a baker.

She was a member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, where she was a part of the Women’s Guild and was the Sunday school treasurer.

Mrs. Carroll also was a collector of all kinds of dolls.

Surviving, in addition to her husband of 67 years, are two sons, Earl Carroll Jr. and Eugene Carroll; seven grandchildren; a great-grandchild; a sister, Joan; two brothers, Warren and Vernon; and several nieces and nephews.

Deceased, in addition to her parents, is a brother, Jerome Kiskadden.

Calling hours will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday in Lane Family Funeral Homes, Roberts Clark Chapel, 180 Garfield Drive, Warren. Additional visitation will be held from 10 to 11 a.m., the time of service, Wednesday, December 18, in Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, Warren, with the Rev. Norman Schinkel officiating. Burial will follow in Crown Hill Burial Park.

Beloved husband, cherished father

Paul J. Dunn Jr., 49, of Bethel Park, formerly of Upper St. Clair, passed away unexpectedly Monday, December 16, 2013.

He was born October 15, 1964, a dear son of Linda and Paul Dunn Sr.

Mr. Dunn was the beloved husband of Rina (Ripepi) Dunn; cherished father of Paul III, William and Samantha Dunn; and loving brother of Patrick (Katherine), Pamela (Raymond) Sylvester and Philip (Teresa) and Christopher Dunn.

Also surviving are many nieces and nephews.

He was adored and loved by all and will be greatly missed.

Friends and family are welcome from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday in Cremation and Funeral Care, 3287 Washington Road, McMurray, PA 15317, 724-260-5546. Member of Mary, Mother of the Church

Virginia A. Martinet Kurilla, 71, of Carroll Township, passed away peacefully Monday, December 16, 2013, in Mon Valley Care Center.

She was born November 4, 1942, in Monessen, a daughter of the late Albert and Elizabeth Hako Martinet.

Mrs. Kurilla worked for many years at the former Miller’s Department Store in Charleroi and in the deli department at the Fisher Heights Giant Eagle.

She was a member of Mary, Mother of the Church and Mon Valley Serra Club.

Mrs. Kurilla enjoyed taking trips to the casino and playing video games.

Surviving are her husband of 49 years, Donald Kurilla; sons John “J.D.” Kurilla and Matt Kurilla; daughter Beth Derocco and fiancé Shawn Wagner; brothers John Martinet and David Martinet and wife Carmen; and several nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday in Melenyzer-DuBarr Funeral Homes and Cremation Services Inc., 825 Fallowfield Avenue, Charleroi. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday, December 19, in Mary, Mother of the Church, Charleroi, with co-celebrants the Rev. Gerald A. Mikonis and the Rev. Walter Rydzon. Owner of McClure Construction Co.

Robert B. “Bob” McClure, 78, of McMurray, died Sunday, December 15, 2013, surrounded by his loving family, in Allegheny General Hospital, Pittsburgh.

He was born June 3, 1935, in Hackett, a son of the late Benjamin and Ruth Wessel McClure.

Mr. McClure owned and operated McClure Construction Co. in Venetia and was a former industrial arts teacher at Canon-McMillan High School.

He served in the U.S. Marine Corps.

At the time of his death, he was an elder of Center Presbyterian Church in McMurray. He also served as president of the board of Finleyville Cemetery Company and as a director of the Walter P. Chrysler Club, was founding president of Peters Township Quarterback Club and was a member of American Legion Post 613 in Finleyville and Lodge 297 F&AM in Canonsburg.

Surviving are his wife, Jane Patsch McClure; two sons, Robert Scott McClure and wife Allison and Douglas Irwin McClure, both of Venetia; a daughter, Kathleen DeLuca and husband David of McMurray; seven grandchildren, Ben, Alexa, Dan, Brad, Will, Marshall and Cassi; and two nieces.

Deceased is a sister, Constance Noll.

Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday in Kegel Funeral Home Inc., Tim P. Kegel, supervisor, 3560 Washington Avenue, Finleyville. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, December 20, in Center Presbyterian Church, McMurray, with the Rev. Donald Austin officiating. Everyone please meet at the church Friday morning. Loved her grandchildren

Joan G. Meiter, 75, of Carmichaels, passed away Sunday, December 15, 2013, in Uniontown Hospital. A band of angels came down and took her to heaven.

She was born October 11, 1938, in Clarksville, a daughter of the late Jacob and Ethel Black Gower.

Surviving are two children, Candy Aeschbacher of Rices Landing and Mark Meiter of Lorain, Ohio, and two grandchildren, Tyler and Kristina Aeschbacher.

Mrs. Meiter was a member of First Methodist Church in Carmichaels and Order of Eastern Star in Salem, Ohio.

She was a secretary for Carmichaels Municipal Authority, and a part-time secretary for Carmichaels Borough until her retirement.

Mrs. Meiter loved her grandchildren. She enjoyed going to yard sales and flea markets.

Services are private under the direction of Lesako Funeral Home Inc., 204 Dowlin Avenue, Carmichaels, PA 15320, 724-966-5100, Paul M. Lesako, director/supervisor. Interment will be in Garards Fort Cemetery.

Served in U.S. Army

Pete Nolan, 80, of Clarksville, died Sunday, December 15, 2013, in Ruby Memorial Hospital, Morgantown, W.Va.

He was born February 23, 1933, in Peoria, Ariz.

Mr. Nolan served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

He was a mechanic who owned and operated his own garage.

Surviving are seven children, Jeffrey Nolan of Avella, Brenda Blaker of Nemacolin, Valerie Nolan of Washington, Christine Clugsten of Lake Lynn, Kimberly Nolan of Clarksville, Michael Nolan of Clarksville and Rebecca Nolan of Washington; 19 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

Deceased is a son, Joseph A. Nolan.

Formerly of Roscoe

Frances Pichard Stark, 94, formerly of Roscoe, passed away, Sunday, December 15, 2013, in Ruby Memorial Hospital, Morgantown, W.Va., surrounded by her loving family.

She was born October 8, 1919, in Coal Center, a daughter of the late Louis and Gabrielle Coven Pichard.

Mrs. Stark was a member of United Methodist Church and American Legion Post 801 Auxiliary, both in Roscoe, and was very active at Oaks Senior Center and volunteered at Center in the Woods, both in Brownsville.

She was known for her for baking, especially her award-winning peach cookies.

Left to cherish the many wonderful memories are son Jerry and wife Janice Stark of Grasonville, Md.; daughters Janice and husband Fred Abbadini of Stafford, Va., and Myra Thomas of Clarksville; eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; 16 great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Deceased, in addition to her parents, are her husband, Myron “Butch” Stark, who passed away July 23, 1983; a brother; and four sisters.

Mrs. Stark was the last surviving member of her family.

Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday in Melenyzer-DuBarr Funeral Homes and Cremation Services, 1008 Furlong Avenue, Roscoe, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, December 20, with the Rev. Candace Cook presiding. Interment will follow in Highland Cemetery.
