Enjoyed bow hunting, playing bocci

Kenneth S. “Doc” Devore, 74, of Eighty Four, died Thursday, December 19, 2013, in Washington Hospital.

He was born September 15, 1939, in Finleyville, a son of James and Anna Merriman Devore.

Mr. Devore was self-employed as a landscaper and previously was employed at the former McGraw Edison Company in Canonsburg.

He was an elder at Pigeon Creek Presbyterian Church in Eighty Four and a member of Falcon Archery Club in Canonsburg.

Mr. Devore enjoyed bow hunting, competition archery shooting and playing bocci and paper football with his family.

Surviving are his wife, Stella Curdie Devore; two sons, George Devore and wife Diane of Eighty Four and Scott Devore and wife Karen of Bellefonte; a daughter, Cathy Meehan and husband David of Surprise, Ariz.; 11 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday in Kegel Funeral Home Inc., Tim P. Kegel, supervisor, 3560 Washington Avenue, Finleyville. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, December 23, in Pigeon Creek Presbyterian Church, 45 Church Road, Eighty Four, with the Rev. Eric Powell officiating. Private interment will be held in Mingo Cemetery, Finleyville.

Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of one’s choice.

Church cantor, ?WWII veteran

William R. Grego Sr., 88, of Eighty Four, formerly of Canonsburg, passed away at 1:12 p.m. Friday, December 20, 2013, in Washington Hospital, with his loving family by his side.

He was born May 21, 1925, in Canonsburg, a son of the late Giuseppe “Joseph” and Frances Farrell Grego.

Mr. Grego attended Canonsburg High School, where he received a special diploma in 2002 for those students required to serve in World War II. He served as a sergeant with Company B Corps of Engineers in the U.S. Army, serving in Central Europe and the Rhineland. He received the American Campaign Medal, European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal, Good Conduct Medal and World War II Victory Medal.

Prior to his retirement, he was employed as a shipping foreman at Industrial Gasket and Shim Company.

He lived most of his life in the Canonsburg and Washington area, and was a member of Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Church in Meadow Lands, where he was a member of the choir and Holy Name Society and served as cantor for 40 years.

Mr. Grego was a member of Presidents of Harmony Barbershop Group and co-founder of Washington County Buckskinners, black powder gun club. He was a benefactor of the Southeastern Wildlife Exposition.

He enjoyed wood carving, wood crafting and singing. He loved traveling with his wife and went skydiving on his 80th birthday. He was a caring, loving father and grandfather who devoted his life to his wife and family and will be missed by all who knew him.

On August 12, 1948, he married Betty Jane Yurkas Grego, who passed away October 8, 2003, after 55 years of marriage.

Surviving are two sons, William R. (Linda) Grego Jr. and Russell J. (Janean) Grego, both of Washington; four daughters, Cecilia (the late Paul) Samreny of Pittsburgh, Glenna J. (Brice) Carter of Washington, Gretchen R. (Ray) Clore, with whom he made his home, and Jill A. Ellis of Houston; nine grandchildren, Cana, Alysa, Carla, Bernice, Russell Jr., Dylan, Emily, JT and Jason; a sister, Jessie (Gasper “Gabby”) Mirisciotta of McMurray; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Deceased, in addition to his wife and parents, are a sister, Jean Grego, and three brothers, Chester, Louis and James Grego.

Friends are welcome from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday in Salandra Funeral Service Inc., Joseph P. Salandra, owner/supervisor, 304 West Pike Street, Canonsburg, 724-745-8120, where departing prayers will be recited at 8:50 a.m. Monday, December 23, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. in Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Church, Meadow Lands, with the Rev. Carmen A. D’Amico, as celebrant. Interment will follow in Queen of Heaven Cemetery, Peters Township. Avid collector of seashells

Shirley “MeMaw” Faye Yarnell Martin, of Waynesburg, Greene County, passed away peacefully Friday evening, December 20, 2013, in her home, surrounded by her family.

She was born July 26, 1940, in Connellsville, Fayette County, a daughter of the late George Sylvester Yarnell and Evelyn Foster Yarnell Reynolds.

On September 9, 1972, she married James Owen Martin, who survives, a son of John Lee Martin and Bertha Pearl Wood Martin .

Also surviving are three daughters, Amber Kaye Busch of New Stanton, Jamie Martin Munn and Jennifer Martin Adamson, both of Waynesburg; a sister, Roberta Kaye Reynolds Howard (Paul) of Waynesburg; 11 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Deceased are three brothers, Nelson (Bussie) Yarnell, Charles (Chuck) Yarnell and Robert (Ray Ray) Reynolds.

Mrs. Martin attended Jefferson-Morgan High School. For many years, she provided day care in her home to many residents of the Waynesburg area.

She was a devout Christian with a very deep commitment to her Lord and Savior. She loved being by the ocean and spending time with her grandchildren. She was an avid collector of seashells and rocks from the beach, which she would place in flower gardens around her home, where she spent many hours a day. She was a huge fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers and her all-time-favorite football player was Terry Bradshaw.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, December 29, in Faith Baptist Church, Lippencott.

The family requests memorial contributions be made to hospice.

Navy vet, St. Nicholas Church member

Rosalie Schrader Nonack, 89, of Fallowfield Township, Charleroi, died Saturday morning, December 21, 2013, in her home.

She was born March 18, 1924, in Webster Springs, W.Va., a daughter of the late Jonas Hurley and Jessie Lee Coberly Schrader.

Mrs. Nonack was a graduate and class valedictorian of Bentleyville High School.

A veteran, she served as a specialist with the U.S. Navy during World War II.

She was a member of St. Nicholas Orthodox Church in Donora and American Legion Post 165 in Bentleyville.

Surviving are her husband, Steve N. Nonack Jr.; four children, Steffie Smith (Larry) of Fallowfield Township, Linda Puskarich (Terry) of Cokeburg, Mary Ann Lobodinsky (Francis) of Somerset Township and Paul Nonack (Vickie) of Fallowfield Township; five grandchildren, Terry Puskarich, Kyra Sloan, Jason Nonack, Lysa Lukachyk and William Lobodinsky; four great-grandchildren, Macksim and McKenna Rose Nonack and Wyland Lukachyk and Jackson Sloan; and several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Nonack was the last of her immediate family.

Deceased are siblings Byron Schrader, Billie Fawcett, Maxine Crumrine, Helen McCaffrey and Janice Lytle.

Friends are welcome from 1 to 8 p.m. Monday in Thompson-Marodi Funeral Home Inc., 809 Main Street, Bentleyville, 724-239-2255, where services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, December 24, with the Very Rev. Gloria L. Novotny, 67, of Rices Landing, died Saturday, December 21, 2013, in Monongahela Valley Hospital.

Clarksville resident

Phillip L. Redman, 69, of Clarksville, died Friday, December 20, 2013, in his home.

He was born February 2, 1944, in Waynesburg, a son of the late Oliver K. and Viola May Hetrick Redman.

Mr. Redman was a forklift operator for A.J. Rose Manufacturing in Cleveland, Ohio, for 35 years.

Surviving are his wife, Margie Redman Stone of Clarksville; three children, Deborah Sue Redman of Cleveland, Teresa Redman of Clarksville and Phillip L. Redman Jr. of Cleveland; three grandchildren, Angel Marie Redman, Donald Louis Davis and Christopher Redman; and a sister, Jenny Pyles of Cleveland.

Deceased are two sisters, Florence Redman and Gertrude Tenney, and four brothers, Frank Redman, Harvey Redman, Tom Redman and William Redman.

Friends will be received from noon to 1:30 p.m., the time of service, Monday, December 23, in Behm Funeral Homes Inc., 1477 Jefferson Road, Jefferson, Gregory P. Rohanna, supervisor, with Pastor Steven Stone officiating. Interment will follow in Jefferson Cemetery.

Loving husband, father and grandfather

Turney William Ross, 72, of Washington, died Saturday, December 21, 2013, in his home.

He was born March 10, 1941, in Washington, a son of the late Turney McClelland and Peggy Pounds Ross.

Mr. Ross was a veteran of the Vietnam Era, having served in the U.S. Navy as a corpsman and achieved the NCO Rank of petty officer first class.

He was a graduate of Washington & Jefferson College and received his bachelor of arts degree in business administration.

Mr. Ross was a longtime member of St. Hilary Roman Catholic Church in Washington.

He was employed at Washington Steel as a foreman of the rolling mill for several decades.

Mr. Ross served as governor of Moose Lodge 22 in Washington and was a member of American Legion Post 175 in Washington. He was also a former member of the Elks Lodge in Washington and Washington Country Club.

He loved to travel and spend time with his wife, children and grandchildren and follow their sports. He also enjoyed working on a classic car with his longtime friend Tony Canterna, with whom he would go to the Pittsburgh strip district markets almost every weekend. He loved golf, scuba and making wine to share with others.

On July 17, 1965, in St. Hilary Roman Catholic Church in Washington, he married Gemma McCloskey, with whom he celebrated 48 years of marriage this year.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, are a daughter, Renea (Randy) Jordon of Washington; two sons, Ronald William (Kimberly) Ross of Valley City, Ohio, and Robert Michael (Rishelle) Ross of Northville, Mich.; six grandchildren, Justin, Lena, Tyler, Owen and Ella Ross and Jace Jordan; two sisters, Peggy (Carmen) Olivario and Beverly (Bernard) Siek, both of Washington; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Deceased are two grandchildren, Courtney Ross and Jonathan Ross Jordan, and a brother, Terry Davis.

Friends will be received from 1 to 9 p.m. Sunday and 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., the time of service, Monday, December 23, in Dale D. DeAngelo Funeral Home, 1290 Jefferson Avenue Washington, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 1 p.m. in St. Hilary Roman Catholic Church, Washington, with the Rev. Thomas D. O’Neil as celebrant. Interment will follow in Washington Cemetery with a full military rites by American Legion Post 639 of Claysville. The Moose Lodge 22 will hold a service at 7 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home.

Enjoyed all sports

Walter Richard Stasiowski, 74, of West Alexander, died Saturday, December 21, 2013, in Kindred Hospital, Pittsburgh.

He was born April 14, 1939, in Meadow Lands, a son of Rose Gostic Stasiowski of Alexandria, Va., and the late Walter J. Stasiowski.

Mr. Stasiowski had worked as a mechanic and driver for Don Swart School Buses.

He enjoyed all sports, especially golf, and all Pittsburgh teams.

On August 16, 1958, he married Joyce Fife, who survives.

Also surviving are three sons, Ronald Stasiowski of West Alexander, Michael Stasiowski of Washington and Joseph (Lisa) Stasiowski of Claysville; a daughter, Katherine (Robert) Weaver of Washington; a brother, Robert (Pat) Stasiowski of Alexandria; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Deceased is a brother, Stephen Stasiowski.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday in William G. Neal Funeral Homes Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, where services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, December 24, with the Rev. Meade Lacock officiating. Private burial will be held at the convenience of the family in Claysville Cemetery.
