Loving husband, father and grandfather

Turney William Ross, 72, of Washington, died Saturday, December 21, 2013, in his home.

He was born March 10, 1941, in Washington, a son of the late Turney McClelland and Peggy Pounds Ross.

Mr. Ross was a veteran of the Vietnam Era, having served in the U.S. Navy as a corpsman and achieved the NCO Rank of petty officer first class.

He was a graduate of Washington & Jefferson College and received his bachelor of arts degree in business administration.

Mr. Ross was a longtime member of St. Hilary Roman Catholic Church in Washington.

He was employed at Washington Steel as a foreman of the rolling mill for several decades.

Mr. Ross served as governor of Moose Lodge 22 in Washington and was a member of American Legion Post 175 in Washington. He was also a former member of the Elks Lodge in Washington and Washington Country Club.

He loved to travel and spend time with his wife, children and grandchildren and follow their sports. He also enjoyed working on a classic car with his longtime friend Tony Canterna, with whom he would go to the Pittsburgh strip district markets almost every weekend. He loved golf, scuba and making wine to share with others.

On July 17, 1965, in St. Hilary Roman Catholic Church in Washington, he married Gemma McCloskey, with whom he celebrated 48 years of marriage this year.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, are a daughter, Renea (Randy) Jordon of Washington; two sons, Ronald William (Kimberly) Ross of Valley City, Ohio, and Robert Michael (Rishelle) Ross of Northville, Mich.; six grandchildren, Justin, Lena, Tyler, Owen and Ella Ross and Jace Jordan; two sisters, Peggy (Carmen) Olivario and Beverly (Bernard) Siek, both of Washington; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Deceased are two grandchildren, Courtney Ross and Jonathan Ross Jordan, and a brother, Terry Davis.

Friends will be received from 1 to 9 p.m. Sunday and 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., the time of service, Monday, December 23, in Dale D. DeAngelo Funeral Home, 1290 Jefferson Avenue Washington, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 1 p.m. in St. Hilary Roman Catholic Church, Washington, with the Rev. Thomas D. O’Neil as celebrant. Interment will follow in Washington Cemetery with a full military rites by American Legion Post 639 of Claysville. The Moose Lodge 22 will hold a service at 7 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Washington Youth Baseball of to the Vernon C. Neal Sports Complex.
